I think it lets him down at times, but never seems to be mentioned. While he got a lot of the ball, he turned it over quite a bit on the weekend, especially when kicking short into the corridor. He had a good game, but this isn't the first time I've noticed his kicking being a bit off.

Too critical? Thoughts?

I would say you are in this case.
High pressure game and the wind was strong and flukey. I reckon his career and Brownlow gives him the benefit of the doubt on a few skill errors.

The conditions were the exact opposite to what is conducive to kicking accuracy. So way too harsh.

In general, I believe Bartel's kicking is very good. Can kick it 50+ off one step too.

Ablett was worse, multiple times he put the ball in front a player, but by the time he kicked it, the oppposition had the front position and a turn over ensued.

Still, most players turned it over on the weekend.

I have a slight but not huge problem with the way he just bombs it long out of clearances... which is normally fine because it gets the ball forward out of the congestion etc.

BUT, if it were Ablett he'd probably handball it out to someone who can actually kick it to someone, or Ablett would run out of the congestion and then kick it to someone himself.

Obviously they are completely different players, but I don't think the bomb out of a clearance is always the best option, for me anyway, and he does it a lot.

Apart from that... I'd donate a kidney to the man, the perfect footballer!

I'd have to say that Bartel's disposal never worries me.

I think he has a higher level of confidence than most and is fully prepared to go for risky targets in the corridor which possibly lowers his effective disposal percentage.

Mackie has a slight tendency to overcook his drop punts under heavy pressure and Kelly will drop the odd one short, but team disposal overall is exceptional.

Bartel is one of the best at weighting the ball for a player to run on to. Rooke's goal in the last quarter of the Hawthorn game last year is an example that immediately springs to mind. If he played soccer, he'd be the guy they'd pick to take the corners. Absolutely surgical at times.

He drops the ball a bit differently then most, and tries to thread the needle a lot with his passes which he usually makes. Excellent set shot at goal, always a spearing kick.

He's a very good kick but is prone to a mishap here and there.
