You're safe. You now have a GF and a quality holiday to look forward to. I think you said it was Italy, can I ask where?

Italy is my favourite country to visit. It is small but each region is so different it is like five countries in one. I'm sure you will be able to find somewhere there to watch the GF.
We’re in Dubai waiting for a connection to Napoli. From there it’s off to Salerno at the southern end of the Amalfi Coast. Hopefully will have time to squeeze in Rome/Vatican City as well as my mum’s hometown in the south and dad’s in the north.

I’ve been to Italy about 8 times. I’ve prepared myself this time by going on a pre-trip diet! I’m going to eat my way through the next 3 weeks.

Salerno is a hidden gem. Don't tell anyone about it. As you would know it also gives you easy access to both Pompeii and Paestum. I don't know how those bus drivers navigate those Amalfi coast roads.

Lol, never had to do the diet, even though I would be eating a ton of pasta. I like to do a lot of walking around just taking in the sights. I suppose I burn it off.

Naples, well, as someone from the north told me "Naples is Naples". A place worth a visit but I remember seeing a lot of tourist groups around the place with a look on their face of "Why TF are we here?". It certainly is an experience.

Every time I go to concerts a large person stands in front of me. It pisses me off, so I can relate somewhat. I’m only 175cm.
if it makes you feel any better, I always feel bad standing in front of short people.

But then I remember they get actual legroom on planes and my sympathy disappears.

My boy spent the whole flight spewing. He basically hasn’t eaten anything since we left Melbourne.

Just touched down in Dubai to the awesome news that we’re into the granny.

I’m stoked, and my boy is all good now that we’ve touched down. One more flight to go, then we’re in Napoli!
I hope you're not staying in Naples, dirtiest city in Italy, saw rats in the streets.

The only good thing about it is hopping on a ferry to Sorrento

I had been before but really did umm and ahh about staying there for a week a few years ago. In the end I went for it.

Good things:

Archaeological Museum
The castles near the shore
Eat a pizza I suppose but not much different to the rest of Italy, they all know how to do it
Easy access to Mount Vesuvius via the Circumvesuviana (aka the pickpocket express)

Bad things:

People go on about the pizza but it is really no better than the rest of the country
Finding out the pizza place we were staying right next to had been shot at by the Camorra for not paying protection money a couple of months earlier. Going by the sevice we recieved from that place they probably deserved it.
The rubbish, the people just don't care. Do they not realise they are just shitting in their backyards?

Didn't see any rats though.

I would say base yourself in Salerno and do day trips from there.

Sorrento was alright but pretty touristy.

While it was an experience worth having if someone asked me I would say stay in Salerno and do a day trip to Naples if you want.

Another traveller tip. When exiting the main train station walk on the left hand side. When entering walk on the right hand side.

Go on the other side and you will just feel crunches under your feet. You then look down to find you are walking on used syringes.

Keep safe when overseas people.

Have hardly had any sleep or get around much since Saturday since a sudden ans very painful onset of arthritis hit my right ankle and actually worse a couple of my right toes.

It's excruciating and honestly wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

I'll probably be doped up to my eyeballs on pain killers and deep heat for the next few days.

Its literally an ordeal to get up and walk to the John ... 🚽 😔

Are you on any pain meds? From what you are saying it sounds like you should be.

Just osteopanadol and ibuprofen. Some nights it gets bad. Had 4 surgeries on the knee including 2 knee recos. Chronically dislocated and bone on bone. Was a bit negative earlier because the pain was getting a bit much tonight. Starting to calm down now though

That sounds like pretty weak stuff for what the pain is you are describing.

Are you seeing a specialist? A lot of GPs are too paranoid about prescribing the heavier stuff and some aren't even allowed to.

Specialists obviously aren't cheap but in the end what price for your health?
