So I've decided to grow a beard, mainly through sheer laziness.

Why do people put themselves through such an ordeal.

It itches constantly.
It gets things stuck in it.
It makes me look older
People keep asking me for opinions on craft beer and coffee.

It I wasn't so lazy I would shave it off tomorrow.

If you're bald or have a weak chin/jawline then a beard is good compensation, otherwise they are pointless and pretty disgusting.

Pretty much this. They definitely improve some people’s looks.

The itches are the worst. Get a good beard oil, it provides some relief.

They seem to be a prerequisite for barbers these days. Front of the queue if the tats are on your neck and knuckles.

I have a pretty horrible chin and it took me 24 years to think of growing a beard, but as soon as I did the number of girls that would come up and talk to me on a night out increased exponentially.

They don't suit everyone, but to some people they completely change their appearance for the better and give them the confidence they never had before.

No reason you can't trim a beard. I sport a 3 day growth kept tidy... far easier than close shaving and better looking than an out of control beard that itches.

I shave about once a month/6 weeks, just from pure laziness. CBF'd doing it once a day or few days or weekly. Once it gets to the homeless looking stage, I get rid of it and start again. These days no-one gives a shit if it looks bad or unprofessional. 10 years ago my boss would have been onto me to shave it I reckon.

Had this discussion at work yesterday.. even keeping my facial hair tidy now, it would have been completely unacceptable even 5 years ago.

Not sure my boss was that happy when I had a mullet for 2 weeks because I lost a bet (this was about 10 years ago)

last year I shaved my 2 year old beard and it scarred me enough to grow it back
