Tyson Stenglein = Nick Stevens?

I think what is interesting is

1. Tyson Stenglein wants a trade to WA.
2. The AFC has a higher opinion of Stenglein's value than the WA clubs.
3. Therefore the WA clubs will not come up with an acceptable trade.

Do the Crows play hardball and throw him to the draft, as Port Adelaide did with Stevens? Or don't they have the - er, backbone?

If we had to throw Stinger into the draft for nothing that'd be all she wrote.

Wont happen. Our pick will be before the Eagles and the Dockers.

So unless Stenglein wants to go to Victoria...

i'd like West Coasts first round pick which could be around 10 or 11.

Why would the Eagles give up a first round pick for a 24/25yo midfielder who averages 15 possessions a game?

Because stats don't tell the whole story and you should know that.

Because hes one of the best taggers in the comp, a leader, tall, 24 years is not old... in 4 years time will we say Cooney is too old? Stenglein still has another 8 years atleast.

Whats with you and Stats? Is Scott West the best player in the AFL?

Youd be lucky to pick up a guy with a late first round pick that will end up as good as Stenglein, and Tyson is still young.

Are you saying we should (if it came to that) take a deal we didn't like, in preference to making a stand on principle as Port did?

It just seems to me a likely scenario - the WA clubs don't rate Stenglein as much as we do (rightly or wrongly - Stenglein's value is not the issue here), they know he wants to move to WA so they feel they can get away with it....

They tell a fairly damning story if we expect the WA clubs to give us their first-round pick - and that's before you go into his questionable disposal and OP worries.

All he has going for him is he is a better than average tagger - second rounder at best.

Because the stats say that Stenglein only touches the ball 15 times a game - if West Coast offered us a similar player for our first-round pick we'd tell them to get stuffed.

He's tall? So is Ian Perrie.

One of the best taggers in the comp? He's behind Kirk, Cook, Cornes, Carr, B. Rawlings, Ball...

Chuck something else in and you never know.

How about Stenglein and our 2nd rounder for WC's first round?

What about adding Perrie?

There are plenty of possibilities.

Now you're talking.

I don't disagree he is a valuable commodity - but only if packaged with something decent.

On his own he is not worth a first rounder by any stretch.

I watched the game on Sunday, and that game confirmed my opinion on Waters. This kid will be an absolute gun.

Waters has got that bit of mongrel about him that we desperately need. While his decision making lets him down on some occassions, he looks to be a real player.

But we have no real chance of getting him. As said before, a first round draft pick is hardly ever traded, so don't expect him to be a let off his leash anytime soon.

Stenglein's a good, honest player, but in terms of potential, Waters is miles ahead. For now, the chances of snaring him are very, very low.

Its not that he aint a good player, its just that Eagles dont need a midfielder and especially a midfielder which will cost them there no 1 draft pick. I think eagles will trade there no 2 draft pick and a player like Rowan Jones for Stenglein at the most,

They very much need a defensive midfielder. Eagles have one of the most unaccountable midfields in the competition and that's part of the reason they've been so mediocre.

Exactly. Which brings up another thing. Is it just me, or has Stenglein become more attacking than he used to be? It just seems that his opponents are getting a fair bit of the ball, even when Stingers himself has a good day.

beacuse he's not, he's a little too slow and last year he was barely holding onto his place in the side.

Shirely was tagger of choice for the last half of the season.

we will not get waters, he is contracted for next year, he doesnt want to come home just yet from what i know. why would WC want to get rid of him anyway?
Stenglien is a great player but we would have to offer alot more than him to get Waters.

I don't think he is playing as much as a tagger this year. He is supposed to be our clearance specialist and is running forward of the ball a lot more.

Waters is going to be an absolute beauty. as someone else said he's got that bit of mongrel about him that we desperately need.

I'd be prepared to package up Stenglein plus to get the kid - he's the real thing.

I think that deal would be good for the Crows.

I saw a lot of Waters and Cooney at Under 17's level and posted first on here about Waters being a gun, along with telling you to watch out for Jericho. Just keep watching Westies, Shaun Rehn will keep churning out draft kids.

Agreed macca23:) .

Has an excellent work ethic. Sound skills that can only get better with experience. Has not wasted his opportunities and at a young age shows maturity beyond his years.

Stinger and 1st round d/p easy.
