I've not seen much of Beeck so far and last Friday didn't enlighten me a great deal.

Barring injuries to our ruck division, can't see him getting a start there.

Anyone care to venture an opinion on his ability and potential role in the side. CHF maybe?

Well, Ex, having still stubbornly refused to get out and get a life, here are my thoughts on Beeck ;)

To be honest, I don't really think he is a ruckman by nature, it just so happens that he is 197cm, and thus always ends up their in the WAFL.

I don't think the Eagles plan to ever use him in the ruck barring emergencies.. He's young, but I don't think he'll ever be as beefy as Gardiner, or for that matter Cox, which kind of limits his usefulness as a full time ruckman- at this stage, he's just a young, kpp sized player who is too raw to be able to predict whether he'll come good or not.

One thing I did notice last week is that he certainly doesn't lack for speed or agility. Very similar to where McDougall was a few years ago actually- undeniable talent, very good agility, and slightly oversized for a kpp. Beeck didn't do a lot during the scratchy, but he looked relatively comfortable at FF/FB- the one thing that stands out for me is that he doesn't move like a ruckman at all- the speed and the agility are definitely in a kpp class.
I'd say he's probably about a year away from maturity and an AFL debut, unless we really start to scrape the bottom of the barrel for defenders this year. Best case scenario, he could be similar in style to Goodes, but with Cox and Gardiner in place and Seaby coming through I don't think he'll ever end up as a ruckman- rather, he'll be another tall, rangy kpp who can ruck a bit- rather like McDougall but more defensively minded, and thus more likely to get a guernsey at CHB. Still a fair way off though.

good post

This is the type of thread I enjoy reading. Good informative stuff with out all the them and us nonsense. GIVE US MORE OPINIONS and UPDATES on Players.

A bit of witty humour is OK but PLEASE spare me the them and us crap.

i can't see Beeck being in our best 22 for a long time. i would think that his place in the team is as emergency backup.

still the coaching staff must see something in him. hasn't he been on our rookie list for 3 years?

Thanks Mead,

you mention speed and agility, can he kick and mark? What about contests, and how about his judgement and ability to read the play?

I guess if they were noteworthy he'd be in the starting 22 by now?

He has had quite a bad run with injuries (which Eagles tall hasn't) but after coming back from a knee injury seems to have come along in leaps and bounds (pun intended). Andy Lovell was really rapt with his improvement last year and he didn't do too bad of a job in the WAFL v SANFL game.

Beeck was East Perth's no 1 ruckman last year.
He played in defence at the scratch match, right? He didn't really impress me that much, but I agree that he is a lot more agile than someone of his frame would expected to be.
I still don't think he'll make the 22 yet, but is he really that necessary on the list if we have all those other tall kpp's, so I'dd say use him in the backline.

Another question about Beeck...

Is his name pronounced "Beak" or "Beck"? I've heard both variations.
