Beer over O'Keefe

Is there any conceivable, logical reason why Beer was selected over O'Keefe? This is the most left field selection since Peter Taylor.

Beer won't play, they'll go with Hilfenhaus Siddle, Johnson, Harris, Smith and Watson.
I too would have liked to have seen O'Keefe in the squad.

Radio already reported this morning that he is definitely playing. Only playing 3 quicks. from hilditch.

That was in the paper today as well.

I would say it's due to NSW depth. O'Keefe, had he been playing first class cricket, probably would've been a better shot, but with both Hauritz trying to get back in the side and Smith bowling as well he hasnt got a look in.

Really, Hauritz should've been chosen, 7 wickets at the Waca last week bowled well against SA and hit a ton.

There is no logical answer in picking Beer over Hauritz, just none.

IF Beer plays and he turns out to be a lemon like Doherty, the selectors must be held to account. They are handing out green baggies to anyone and turning it into a farce. It's time we got back to picking the best 12 players in Australia and not selecting players because they are left armers, etc.

You have to wonder why O'Keefe was overlooked when he was picked in the Aus A v England game, which is presumably for players next in line for test selection, and took wickets and made runs.

The only reason I can think of is that he wasn't playing state cricket after being dropped for Hauritz. The selectors would have looked a bit stupid selecting O'Keefe ahead of Hauritz for Australia when Hauritz was selected ahead of O'Keefe for NSW.
