We pretty much have #1 pick in PSD sewn up, and with a quality player in it for the first time in about 5 years, do you think we will get him? I'd say there will be a fair amount of salary cap room at end of year with quite a few players getting delisted/retiring ie. yze.

I think Cousins would thrive on the challenge of playing at a struggling club - If he did go to a team, I'd like it to be Melbourne, because I reckon he'd do a good job.

Edit: We are a struggling club :) ...would gladly see him back and in good health

I don't think we have the wooden spoon sewn up by any means. West Coast are ravaged by injury and are just as badly out of form as we are. Hold your horses everybody, we may be deprived of Naita and the PSD #1.

Imagine the pre-season stories with him, Carroll, McLean, Moloney, Sylvia et al getting up to no good!

dont want him.

The coaches and board are talking about "culture change" and lack of leadership at mfc. All this would count for nothing if we went after cousins. I love his talent and admire him as a footballer and would love him playing for melbourne, but to me it would seem we are taking one step foward and three steps back.

Besides if we get kerr we cant have those two boxing on with each other on end of season trips. Imagine that kerr cousins carroll mclean, they could do a show just like russell crowe did on south park "fightin around the world":D

of course its ours. do u think we'd be so stupid as to win meaningless games such as western last year. this is how the afl has made footy supporters think, they have made us wanna lose every week, its b*llshit but its fact. bring on the spoon and number 1 pick GO DEEZ 2010

I would love to see Cuz in the red & blue but what is the point in picking up someone who will be about 31 by then? especially when we should be going for youth...

We do have the wooden spoon sewn up. We are the worst side since the early '90's Fitzroy. The thing is, i'm happy with it. We need top picks. It's as simple as that. Look at what Hawthorn has done. That's what we are headed for. West Coast are not a good side, but they will win a few because of their home ground advantage. Naitanui in the red V is not a hope, it's a reality.

It's quite sad but every game that Carlton and Richmond win (getting us closer to the number 1 pick), I'm ecstatic. Never thought I would say that, but it's the truth.

It's the PSD, it's not the National Draft who gives a shit if it turns out to be a dud pick it's a risk worth taking.

Age isn't everything, Robert Harvey is a prime example of that.

Hypothetically speaking, if Kerr ended up in the PSD, would you take him or Cuz?

That's a different story, however I highly doubt Daniel Kerr will end up in the PSD.

I know you said hypothetically speaking by the way.

True point and I also can see your point about age not being a factor i.e Robert Harvey, however IMO I just dont see the point in picking up the Cuz because we have the likes Valenti on the list, who i think given his oppurtunity could be as big as the Cuz and will be a 250+ game player for us. Add in McLean,Jones,Grimes,Buckley,Morton,Slyvia and Moloney, we will have a Blue Chip midfield in the next 2-3 years.

True but adding a player like Cousins almost instantly puts someone like Brad Green into the Forward 50 where he belongs because he won't be required in the middle.

LoL I completely forget about Green! After objecting the Cuz in my last couple of posts we need to pick him up in the PSD if we cannot get Kerr this year for that exact reason. I cant believe I forgot about Green in the middle as I have always been a fan of his up forward, I feel like a complete tool :p

I also don't think it will be as much of gamble as some people are making it out to be. While it's true he will have hit 30 by next season, I think that having a year off from AFL will add perhaps another 2 or so years to his career. His body will have healed and recovered from numerous seasons of AFL football and I reckon his head will be in the right place and we won't have to worry about off field incidents.

Its one of those things you want to do, but you know that it may not be a great idea. There are a lot of external factors to consider with this, it isn't just about him playing good football. The club will get plenty of attention which could affect performance, Cousins will be under a great deal of scrutiny and will have to comply to some conditions in order to play again. When you way up all of these sorts of things, you have to consider whether its worth it.
Me, I say he's worth the risk, he's the fittest player around, which means he'll have more longevity than the average 30 year old, and you can't deny he's a fantastic player. But will he enter the national draft like Stewart Dew did? Or will he be in the PSD?
