Pretty sure Griff played forward for his first 5 games and we won them all.
Griff forward = wins.

Good to see Ben working with the forwards today at training, spent a lot of time working out of the goal square.
the chances are high for him, but it's better to try than to not know. although we've already seen a glimpse of his forward capabilities.God helps this board if he's no good as a forward![]()
Surely he must've learnt something from playing down back, seeing how other great forwards become what they are and how they do it.Griff barely touched the ball as a forward, ran around like a chook with head cut off. Now maybe he was just inexperienced but we couldn't have kept him there any longer.
I hope he can be a marking forward, but jury is still out and will be for some time.
CASE REOPENED
Great post Doc.Wait for 2 more years then see what he looks like. To me he is a tall guy with great athleticism, good marking (sometimes, but we've seen it) and a greta kick. He is not a natural smart footballer (like JR), he obviously has injury issues and he has had relatively little actual game experience since his junior days because of injuries. Develop him to use his weapons - size, speed and kicking. Improve his weak areas by teaching him to run to the right places and learn how to read opponents and the play. Bigger, stronger, faster, smarter and more disciplined = more likely to be a useful AFL player.
If he can just be a decent B grade tall his kicking makes him a dangerous weapon down back and up forward. if he can learn to consistently use his gifts then he is potentially A grade. But he is right now a long way from being there. Expect him to learn how to be a decent AFL tall this year, and maybe to take his place as a regular by season's end. Next year to be regularly worth a first team spot. Only then to become a major contributor.
He has more potential value as a forward, because he will naturally stretch a defense out another 15 meters. This creates a lot of space for the other tall forwards. To me this is his great value, not that he will be Plugger, but that he allows JR, TV and (maybe) Elton (not to mention Lids, Dusty etc) to be one on one inside the forward 50. This happens because if Griff gets it around 60 meteres out he is dangerous in a way that other forwards are not. So without being great he makes the whole forward line work much better because he is tall, athletic and can mark (so requires a good tall defender) adn can kick it a long way straight. POTENTIALLY.
Right now he isn't that player, and maybe will never be. But we all see the potential. Wait grasshopper. Patience is required to get the reward of a good Griff.
Still only 21. A full 3 years younger than Hawkins. I still hold high hopes for him.
