I think with all the negativity about our performance this year we can lose sight of signs that should bring joy and excitement to every supporter.

Ben you shone on Saturday. You came on and showed a composure and the rare ability to deal with the pressure of the day and slot a beauty of a goal with your first kick. I look forward to watching you in the next 10 years!

Was his first goal from his first kick?
Absolutely brilliant!

Trent Cotchin in Round 8, 2008 (17/5/2008) kicked his first goal with his first kick... eery

IT'S EERIE BECAUSE BEN LENNON'S GOAL WAS EXACTLY 6 YEARS AFTER COTCHIN'S!

Lennon and dusty were so good! Dusty really reminded me of Dangerfield on saturday how he just burst outta packs with raw speed and aggression. And gee, lennon struck it so well.

He will play full back this week, back pocket the week after, sub the next four games and then centre half back.
Kid looked really good. Looks like a smart player with some genuine skill. Still dirty he started as sub. Not sure what the point to that is. Debut game, kid has to sit on the pine for three quarters shitting bricks.

Both also came from the Northern Knights.

Will get dropped for pettard.....

But seriously played a good game just should have been a full one

I have kept an eye on him through junior footy due being the same age as me and playing in the same league as well. Always struck me as confident but not arrogant. He knew he was good but didn't try to take 7 bounces and kick 8 every game even though he probably could. Speaking to to some of his mates who played with him they say similar things about him.

This probably came through in his game on Saturday. Not afraid to kick goals and take the game on because he trusts his good skills.

Was super impressed when he slotted that 1st goal. Shows the type of mental application and self belief we need. Thanks Ben!

Also, in all the doom and gloom, not sure enough has been made of Dusty's game. Thought of starting a toast thread but thought that'd be a bit silly - so just mentioning as an aside here (I did see most game him 3 votes in the voting thread). So many knocks on him not having the tank etc, etc, in media and supporters, some of the running he did was really impressive. He created so many offensive moves and 2nd qtr I think ran 100 meters to create an option. Took blokes on where sensible, kicked goals. Excellent game.

Agree with this. I took solace to see Martin had ran himself into the ground when the game ended. He droped to all fours gasping for breath he had done so much work.

He was cooked, he actually did quite a lot of defensive running as well, more than ive ever see from him. I was really, really impressed by his game actually.

As for Lennon, he just looks like pure silk, good hands, great kick, and footy smarts. He's going to be a special player.

I know Francis loves drafting kids that shit themselves under the slightest of pressure, but if you're losing it on the bench waiting to come on then we really are drafting the wrong blokes.

Besides, Len looks like he shits gold nuggs that smell like roses. The only issue i had with him starting on the pine is he's better than 3/4 of the blokes that started on the ground. Not the first and wont be the last kid to debut as sub.

I don't see the point of debuting a kid and having him sit on the pine nervous as **** for three quarters.
I absolute hate the sub rule. People seem to have accepted it meekly. I hate it, the players hate and the coaches hate it.

I'm with a few others, I like him forward. He just seems to be a natural forward. There's not too many 18 y.o forwards who can kick goals. He certainly looks like he could be one. Far exceed my expectations on the weekend. I seriously hope we don't play him in defense for the rest of the year. He could be our Luke Breust/Paul Chapman type.

Very exciting.

BOY OH BOY WOWEE !! THE NORTHERN KNIGHTS FOOTY FACTORY!!!! OH BOY

Calm down BT.

Still a fair way to go to bettering Calder Cannons and Geelong Falcons.
