Do you think he would be worth a punt in the draft. He is a premiership ruckman and still young enough. His size makes him a large object to get around as well. What do you think?

I don't know if 27 years old with two knee reco's under the belt classify's as "age on his side"

Just because a bloke is tall does not mean he is a decent ruckman. We may as well stivck with McKee if we are going to get an other hack tall like marsh. Adelaide fans reckon he's crap and they over rate all their players.

He's a dead set ****ing hack.

I was at the SANFL GF and was listening to 5AA and they were basically making fun of him during the game at how **** he was - this being a Crows player playing for West Adelaide.

He's ****ing **** and if we get him someone should be shot.

Ok then, I think we are agreed on the issue. Who else is around that might go into the draft?

Ray Hall is one possibility. Apart from that, all our eggs are in the Guy Richards basket. McKee is as good as any as a back-up. He could be a back-to-back Premiership player for the Seagulls.

Wow hotpie dont over excite me with the choices we have. I havent seen much in Richards that excites me and as we know the rules of the game eliminate McKee as a useful option. Lets hope that Josh is ready for what awaits him

Why?

There is no chance of a quality experienced ruckman being available in the draft by the time our pick comes up. For us next year, we will rely heavily on Fraser and Rocca, with Richards Walker McKee and Cloke being backups. Same as last year and the year before.

Coz. ;)

Well at least we can see what we can get and we don't have to put up with threads about trying to get hacks like Ben Marsh!!!

Not the same as the last 2 years. Richards, Walker and Cloke are older and stronger. Only one of them needs to come on. Think of how much better Fraser was as a ruckman in 03 vs. 02.

Walker is a long long long way from being ready for senior footy let alone being a ruckman and he isn't tall enough anyway. Richards may be a little stronger than he was 2 years ago but he still needs help to lift his kit bag. Fraser is a quality footballer but he is too light and doesn't have RUCKING the ability to win consistantly in the ruck. Cloke si a bit small to be a top line ruckman.

Yes we have options. We have a number of option of who will get beaten next week in the ruck. Sure we are narrowing the losing margin slowly but so far the count iks 2 premierships and I don't like the odds in 2004 if we meet Brisbane nor do I like the fact that all our nearest premiership rivals have strong ruckmen with good tapwork.

Letys not get carried away here. mcKee's ruck ability eliminated him as a useful option. It's not like he actually ever beat anyione in the ruck during his steller 50 or 60 odd game carreer.

Whilst I agree with the comments re we need a ruck, Marsh aint it. Adelaide stated they wanted a ruckman during trade so why would they let one go. If we had wanted a ruck surely the Sctoland trade for Allan would have been done. Big risk but at least he could play at one point in his career.

We simply have to play Richards early next year and find out whether he can play. Yeah he is a bit light but so was/is Josh. Lets find out rather than speculating. On London, Sandilands is one BIG unit and will cut up a lot of ruckman next year.

A ruck coach would be nice also.

Absolutely. We have to shut our eyes and hope.

MM has known to be loyal to young players learning the ropes - lets hope he doesnt get dragged or droppped every time he makes a mistake or gets beaten in a hitout.

Mark agree with your comments.
Just one thing tho Cloke is the same height as Rocca. Body size is the only difference at the minute. Cloke will fill out like his old man. I think he will be the backup ruck to Josh.
Walker is still about a year off.
Richards will get killed by the likes of Keating, King, Lade, Primus, Gardiner, Stafford etc.

Rocca has sort fibre muscles adn has explosive leap. That makes him play a bit taller in the ruck. Even then he is no great centre bounce ruckman. he's the best we got though. Cloke may do ok but will never consistantly win the ruck IMO. His old man was 193cm and was a workhorse in the ruck for us for years but he was too short and rarely damaged anyone in the centre. As a follower he was fantastic for us though. What worries me is we have untried short ruckman to back up a treid and not good enough yet skinny ruckman who hasn't actually ever won the ruck apart from a game which saw Capuano get sacked.
