News Ben Reid in limbo

Little progress has been made on negotiations for a new deal for the 23-year-old, and while it would be a stretch to say that an impasse has been reached between player and club, there is also no likelihood of a deal being done any time soon.

Player managers and even the players themselves believe that there will be no new deals done at Collingwood until the club gets Cloke to sign the dotted line.

Just found this and it's quite a worry if Reid and the Club are not on the Same Page on there Contract.

Though Reid can Not leave in Free Agency as he is not able to do so.

Also sounds like Cloke is holding the Whole Club to Ransom as club might not sign any new deals until Cloke Does.

Though Bucks has Said Steele,Blair and Ball are all but Signed

Out of all players out of contract Reid has been the one I have been worried about the most along with Harry O, to leave the club. With Keefe stepping up this year I guess if Reid left we wouldnt be in massive trouble but hopefully he signs.

I'd honestly want Reid before Cloke. I love Cloke, but Reid is one of the best CHB we've had for a while. His penetration out of defense and his cut off's into defense are outstanding. For me, it would suck to lose Cloke. But if we lost any one of Sidey, Beams, Wellingham or Reid because of it I'd be dirty as!

I really hope he signs soon. He is going to improve even more and he's so bloody important to us. As important as Cloke is, I think we actually could manage to still do well without him. I'd rather lose Cloke than a variety of players who really make up the core of our best 22.

as stated elsewhere, cloke is durable. reid however is raising doubts.

So we win another game and another article about one of out out of contract players is written. When/If Cloke signs the media will just go to the next player who hasn't signed up yet.

I'd rather lose Reid than Cloke (although don't want to lose either).

If Reid goes, it would be to GWS you would suspect, meaning we would get compensation (2 first round picks in the superdraft, given his ability). We are doing okay at the moment for key defenders.

If Cloke goes in free agency, then the most we can get is 1 first rounder. The worst case scenario is losing Reid to a club other than GWS through the PSD where we get nothing.

considering his preference to play with with his brother, who has signed for a few years with the swans, id suggest its either collingwood or sydney, rather than GWS or anywhere else.

I heard the Pies were into Jolly in a big way in the middle of '09, I've heard that the Sydney sides are the same with Reid now.

My bet is that the Cloke deal will be done very soon and Reids will follow shortly after if not announced on the same day. Would hate to lose either and really can't see it happening. Just worried about what's being done to our salary cap space though. I reckon 2 year deals are the go wherever possible.

His constant injuries wouldn't help his case for a long term contract, which I'd wager is most likely the sticking point.

I can't imagine at his height and with his currently flexibility issues, he'd be any good at it.

Maybe he could get Harry O to train him.

I wouldn't stress too much about Reid yet....they need to sign cloke so they can work out how much cash they have left ...simple as that. I think the cloke deal will be done shortly and then thry will move to the others. We also have to be prepared lose someone unfortunately.

Please, to even mention Harry in the same breath as Cloke and Reid is laughable.

People surmising that a deal will be done with Cloke soon and that Reid will follow are merely speculating and nothing more. It is a waste of time to guess whether or not deals are going to be done. The only thing we know is that signing up all our players is going to be very difficult. We also have little idea what Reid truly wants to do next year. Cloke's worth diminishes with each ordinary game he plays, yet the big offers from Fremantle etc are not going to be effected by poor form.
