If they're serious about this bloke at the Lexus Center, they better not have him making up the numbers down in the 2's again next year.

This kid is as important as anyone going forward at our football club because he has the height and agility to play on these modern day forwards.

I like what they're doing with Nathan Brown in defence. Fortunately his played with Wakelin and Prestigiacomo so he's been learning off the right fella's how to take the bigger bodied guys, but like Franklin and Riewoldt have consistently shown us, we don't have the right type to go with them.

If Ben Reid isn't given game time next year in front of Leigh Brown (who was reasonably well performed today) I will fair dinkum spew up.

Also Cameron Wood has to be a regular from this point on. I would actually play this bloke in front of Fraser in the center square, because if we're ever going to win a premiership, Ben Reid and Cameron Wood have to develop into very good players.

Do you think that Collingwood would consider moving him? I know a team who his father played for would probably be pretty keen to get him.

Concur. I said at the beginning, there is a place for Leigh Brown on the list, but if he ever gets in the way of a talented kid developing, we have a problem.

Reid should be in the side from Round 1 next year.

Reid
N Brown
Rusty
J-Mac
Wellingham
Wood
Beamer

... should all play 22 games barring injury next year, if we're fair dinkum. The likes of Johnson, O'Bree, L Brown etc. need to become the "depth" rather than vice versa.

Hows about the spin... If this kid is serious about playing for the pies, he stop making up the numbers in the 2's and start dominating in the VFL.

Every time he reaches out and gets a start in the AFL, he looks out of his depth. He should be destroying it in the VFL from all accounts (especially posters on BF) but hasnt.

Step up Ben... or step out

I'm pretty sure he is under contract, and I can tell you unless you want to give us Brian Lake, the trade won't happen.

Ben Reid is a very important part of our future, he was bloody good yesterday, and will even come into contention next week if Nathan Brown doenst come up.

Goldsack, Nathan Brown and Reid are all chances next week against Adelaides forward line.

Ben Reid is a huge part of our future, I hope to god they aren't even considering trading him.

I think you'll find he has had quite a good season at CHB, particularly providing an attacking option.

Ben has been tearing it up at CHB in the VFL for most of the year. He's overdue for promotion.

Brian Lake. LOL

My grandmother is actually pretty good friends with his Mother and by the sounds of things he doesn't seem to happy, not unhappy with the club but his role. I guess a lot of young players go through that and just need to continue working hard until they get the call up.

Just thought I'd ask on his status. I meant to a while ago when I was told but I never got around to it. Good luck next week against the Crows. :thumbsu:

"Quite a good season" in the VFL...

His second year on the senior list...

My point exactly.

Third , drafted skinny , 6 foot 5 and as bottom age as you can get. This year has provided more hope as an AFL player than any other. I think the club would be satisfied where he is at atm.

That would be a mistake IMO.

we've already been making a mistake by not giving him any gametime as a defender this year. to throw him in during september will be throwing him into the deep end and history has shown us he doesnt handle pressure that he hasn't been exposed to too well..

i think we'll just leaving him where is for now and give him his chance to shine next year.. if he doesnt then i'll start to worry..

Reid's improvement at CHB this year has been enormous.

From what I've seen at VFL level, he could potentially be one of our better rebounders at AFL level eventually. We don't really have someone who can kick with penetration 50+ metres.

I miss Jimmy :(

How about when he is actually picked in the seniors we play him down back, and not up forward.

That doesnt mean we should play him in front of a full bodied defender who will not be destroyed in contests in the AFL at the cost of games this season as the OP suggests.

Well when he was playing as a forward and got a start... we all know how that ended up... so I agree, but lets waits until he's actually ready to beat a forward at AFL level.

No, I suggested he gets games next season, which would obviously be after another pre-season in the gym.

He has regularly been one of the best in the 2's, and deserves game time and an extended run.
