Yep, and make up for it with a higher points cap and paying whatever a player wants to get them there. All without any concern

Higher points cap ? Sandhurst (39) have more than Birchip (38) .

Even if this was flipped 1 point would not make the population disparity or geographic disadvantage.

How have these boys been going ? Clearances have been denied for now, will they get to Marby ?
Marby coach Brodie Holland was in the media today saying they’d already signed both Eyre boys for next year. They had a throw at the stumps trying to get them for the rest of this year but Castlemaine quite rightly said no. As much as Maine have struggled vs expectations this year, they are still only 1 game outside the 5.

Can Josh Eyre play ? EDFL premier is strong and the last time I seen him play at VFL for Essendon he struggled

Holland would never be accused of having class but I find that very tacky. Understand clubs need to announce coaching appointments during seasons with how early recruiting starts these days but surely player signings can wait until season end.

Bigger picture that is a huge blow for Castlemaine. There’s no way they get better next season if they have to find two players that good just to break even. Probably tips the balance to the leave the league side even further as well.

The question was where for bendigo clubs get their money and that’s what I answered.
Well i dont think this is as big of an issue in country footy as metro footy, but metro clubs are slugging juniors 500 + each to play a season with 20 plus teams, theres certainly an income there for clubs

I think hendo will get a few to come back anyway

Swings and roundabouts. Didnt Maine poach an 18 yo Eyre from Kilmore? Players can these days pick and choose where they play without the loyalty of days gone by. Please tell me where Maine will go when they leave Bendigo? Cant compete in BFL so dont see the future rosy for them anywhere else than MCDFL.

At least the clubs get to keep that money. The biggest rort of all in junior football is AUSKICK and the AFL are profiting directly from it. 90% of the fee paid by participants goes to the AFL but the program is administered by clubs and club volunteers. Now the kids get a pack ( $3 overhead) and a medal or certificate at end of season ( 80c overhead) which leaves $92 from the 100,000 participants generating 9.2 Million in revenue. Imagine if the AFL flipped it and said the clubs get the money and we will invest the difference where required for the sake of grassroots game development.

I don’t have an issue with the poaching just don’t think it needs to be announced at this point of time. Announce it the day after Castlemaine finish.

From what I hear Kyneton is very keen for Castlemaine to apply to Riddell as both clubs would love to reunite but the numbers of teams may prevent that so Central Highlands is looking like the option.

Crazy would know better than me although it may surprise to know I think he is a supporter of staying in Bendigo.

That would never happen. The AFL have no interest in success in any form at grass roots level. Their AFLW is an absolute money pit akin the the WNBA with the men’s game propping it up, they’ve pretty much forgotten about community football.
Just on the women’s football, five years ago girls/womens participation was going gang busters, but chatting to clubs around the area, clubs are now feeling the pinch with trying to field girls teams. Women’s football could be the biggest white elephant of all time.

Central Highlands has 17 teams already…this would be insanity.

Rokewood or Skipton to Castlemaine would mean an overnight stay for juniors

Central Highlands already has 17 teams in the comp, with Riddell 11 or so. How’s the CHFL the better option?

Agree entirely with this bit 👏

Not to my knowledge.

Joshua went down Morwell way in and around his time between Essendon and then Collingwood.
Ryan may have even did the Seymour U18 thing (like a lot of Kilmore kids seem to want to do) during his Calder bottom age time, but then has been around Essendon and Collingwood VFL programs since.

Don't think he played a senior game at Kilmore, although both would be one pointers whenever (hopefully) the day comes.

Family left Kilmore a few years ago.

I thought auskick was pretty cheap for 10 weeks, my kids got a backpack, footy and into an afl game, plus a trophy at macedon 7 or 8 years ago. Not many activities with kids is 10 for an hour of entertainment.

Some essendon dfl premier clubs have got 400 kids playing juniors charging 500 each to play. Do the math there and you can see how they can pay their coaches pretty easy for seniors

Not just coaches, the majority of that money runs out at 2pm the day before the little Johny's play.

I agree with all of that I guess my point is the value for money could be two fold if the clubs running AUSKICK programs got to keep 90% of the fee

I don’t think it is but people I talk to at Castlemaine tell me they think Riddell is unlikely to want another team but Central Highlands are more open to the idea so it might just be the necessity. I think in an ideal world reuniting with Kyneton would be the dream.

These aren’t my ideas just what I’m hearing.

Castlemaine would beat the piss out of the MC league and probably win the CH flag as well. Unless Melton Centrals call it a day in the RDFL the only team that is likely to join is Sunbury Kangaroos. However I’d love to see both Kangaroos and the Maine in the Riddell league 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
