[Masterclass06]

Lots of clubs approached Coby and other players, especially our younger ones who were showing promising signs. The manner that Coby handled this was exemplary and I hope if we make a comeback he will be involved again with the club.

Clubs across the region were making enquiries directly to our players through the year when it became public we were struggling and our future viability was being questioned.

As mentioned earlier, the actions of many clubs will live long in my memory and others associated with Maryborough FNC. I really have no words to describe their behaviour and let's say I wouldn't be too supportive if they fell on hard times and needed assistance due to the way they behaved.

I know we need to remain 'above the line' but in my many years in football I have never seen anything like it. Could be best described as a 'feeding frenzy' and possibly underlines the problems many clubs are facing in the region with low player numbers and an uncertain future.

No doubt a minor club west of your club with form would of been at the top of that list!

Would you care to tell us, without naming them, if any BFL clubs were amongst those acting abhorrently?

As for BFNL clubs being involved I would prefer to not be specific. As I have mentioned there were clubs from across the region and that included clubs from the Bendigo area who behaved in a very unprofessional manner in trying to attract our players with various offers and incentives.

And when it’s a 6 team comp in 3 years time they’ll certainly not acknowledge they were part of the problem.

Yep and this bloke carried on like a celebrity in every league forum in the state. Had all the news and opinions on people. I think this is a football story. No different to Ricky Nixon or Wayne Carey. Even continued to carry on here during the trial like it was any other day. I feel for his 2 kids but like someone said maybe they are finally better off.
