Bendigo lost by a point.
Not a bad game but it did have a few patches where both sides turned the ball over a lot. Not going to go into great detail as i had two TAC Cup games to watch and take notes on before hand so my concentration was suffering a bit after half time of this game. I also did not have Sandys team list so i did not know a lot of their ( Sandy / St.Kilda) players.

Neagle. Took a lead up mark and had a set shot withing the first 30 seconds and i though wow he could be in for a good game but alas it was a false dawn. The shot did not make the distance and he hardly touched the ball again in the first half. He was moved to CHB after half time and was reasonably good defensively but did not have a lot of possessions. Did keep McEvoy to zero touches in the third quarter and he was prepared to run off his man and make the play a couple of times.

Jetta. Kicked a couple of goals and missed a couple as well. Tried hard most of the day but Sandy had a pretty close tag on him so it was a struggle for him to find space. He had around 15 disposals playing mainly as a small forward. He was only in the midfield very late in the game.
Unforntunately one of the reasons Leroy is playing seconds was exposed in the last quarter. He was given instructions from the runner to pick up a loose player in his area so that Williams could push back to FF but he simply kept walking through the middle and pointed for Williams to pick the player up.
Leroy if you are out of the side becasue you fall down in defence it is probaly a good idea to pick up someone, even more so when the message is sent out for you to do it.

Nash. Had around 20 or so possessions playing midfield and half back. He was good without doing anything special. It may be a bit harsh as he has played ok but i just think he should be doing more for a player of his experience at that level. Did enough to be selected if needed next week.

Williams. Not too bad. Played mainly as the lead up FF. Actually held 4 or 5 marks and kicked a few goals. Much better.

Hooker. Tried hard in defence all day. Held his own.

Magin. Used as a small defender. Did not have much of the ball.

Still. Looking ok. Takes a few marks and provided a good target. Kicking was average.

Atkinson. Did nothing apart from having terrible orange hair.

Caroll. Like last week he bobed up and did a few nice things around half forward.Needs to do them more often.

Lovett Murray. Very good in defence. Provided run when needed and saved around 3 goals in the last quarter. Did not give away any stupid free kicks which was good. One of our better players.

Bellchambers. Just won the hit outs but did not have much of it around the ground. Dropped a few contested marks he should have taken with front position.

German. Very busy in the first half. Very quiet in the seond half.

Bock. Just beaten in the ruck work and not may stats around the ground.

Klemke. Steady game playing mainly half back. had his usal hard attack on the ball and run.

ps always manage to forget soemone.

Houli. Ok game. Found a reasonable amount of the footy in the first three quarters. Hardly noticed im in the last quarter which is probably why i forgot him. Probaly did just enough to earn a recall if needed.
Have to say i did not really notice if he was sticking to the defensive side of things.

ant, i know you seem critical on Leroy, but did he do enough to be selected next week?

If there was not the little incident in the last quarter i would have said yes. 14 or 15 possessions and 2.2 is the sort of return you are looking for from a small forward. He was reasonably good with his forward pressure as well.

Thanks for the report Ant. Did you notice any improvement in Houli's disposal or defensive efforts?

Kicking was better. Had a couple of dodgy handballs to players under pressure.
As it was the third game i was watching for the day ( i had watched two TAC Cup games before hand ) the concentration levels where on the slide a little so i did not really notice who he was on and how hard he was working the other way.
I can say he was not running in front of the play as much and looking for cheap possessions.

Did anyone catch the reserves game? My brother played his first for Bendigo #55 Jamie Hackett.

You are a deadset legend, ant.

Am I the only one who finds the fact that a player Knights promised to play at FF all year couldn't keep his spot at FF for Bendigo a bit worrying?

Cheers ant. You say that Still moves well and takes a good mark, but struggles with set shot. Is he a chance to get a game this year?

I will say no. We would have an injury toll like last year if he gets a game.
Needs to build up a bit of body strength and he is the youngest on our list.

Good to see Jetta won't be getting a game in the one's any time soon

He may play next week. It was only my opinion on the game and last time i checked i was not on the selection panel :D

Defensive actions coach ,GOD , was there watching so i guess his verdict on Leroy and Houli will seal their fate.

Thanks for the report ANT, always good to hear how they go. Do you care to elaborate more on the incident or would that be putting him in trouble.

He was getting a message from the runner and the bench to push back and pick up a player who had run from defence but he decided he would ignore that and point to the player and call Williams in to pick him up while he just walked through the middle of the ground.
The trouble was they wanted to send Williams forward when he came onto the ground and not have him picking up blokes in defence.
Not the thing for Leroy to be doing if you are out of the side becasue of a lack of defensive efforts and failing to chase your opponent.

As a hypothetical, Neagle Vs Williams.

If we needed another tall forward this week, who would be more likely picked (out of the two)?

On Saturdays game you would have to say Williams but to go in another direction if we had to pick another tallish forward based on form then i would pick Natrat over both of them.

did NASH do anything? Is he on the way out or what?

i agree that NLM should be brought in to play mcphees role. i prefer him up forward rather than down back. he is hard to match up on too.

Ant,
Apparently Tom German was very good in the first half as a ballwinner and then tagged a midfielder in the second half- would this be accurate Ant? I have heard they tossed up between him and Quinn for the elevation from a fairly reliable source. Quinns speed and athleticism got him over the line and he did the job. Have you heard any similar talk about our rookies?
