Armo rested there to good effect in that game. Dunstan has also proved capable in front of goal.

Weller's forward pressure is excellent.
Armo is a terrific goalkicker, trouble is the more he's a clearance player the less he gets to take kicks or shots at goal, and he's the best clearance player we have.

We will develop many more goal kicking mids as we rotate players more frequently from the forward line to the midfield to save rotations off the bench. We have a good core of players who are comfortable in front of goal and will get their turn in the centre each game. I can see half the team being these sorts of players all getting clearances and all kicking goals.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but i liked what i saw of Acres when he was moved into the forward line and took that mark for against the Roos. Has good height and is a good mark/kick.

Before he was drafted he was talked about as a forward/mid. He's taller than Membrey.

I think I know where you're going with that. Are you saying you think Acres could be what we want Membrey to be?

To hold a position with us you will have to be exceptional or a key tall otherwise all mids will spend time forward or back and medium talls should be able to swing or rotate through the midfield.
Its key to Richos long term game plan to create miss matches and have a very evenly talented team because I think Melbourne and Dogs will be the teams with the star individual players.
Acres will be a forward/mid Membrey will need to develop a mid game or kick 45+ goals a season.

For a 2nd round pick in a rookie draft - I think we've done well with Cam Shenton.

Probably not automatic top 22, but definitely top 25, can play a number of positions, good size and speed.

I could see Shenton getting games if Gilbert gets hurt. Shent could play that same defensive mid/sweeper role, can roost the ball for a long shot at goal and isn't noticeably worse than Gilbo when delivering into the forward line. I'd obviously like to see guys like Eli and NOK getting chances, (as well as Freeman, Acres and Gresh) but if Richo wants that spot in the 22 to go to a big bodied senior player than Im ok with Shents getting a run.

Just keep him away from the opposition goal sqaure haha

sorry guys but if shenton is anywhere near our best 22 this year we've gone nowhere, even geary is a meh and hopefully someone like rice develops at a serious rate of knots so he can replace the leather butcher geary for 2017 onwards

Come on man; both mature, strong bodies with speed and a tank who'll give their all for the side. Sure they've got skill deficiencies, but consider this;

Cam Shenton:
25, 188cm 86kg, Norwood.
- 24 games (8 goals)
- Pick 30 2012 Rookie Draft

Jarryn Geary:
27, 182cm 82kg, Bendigo Pioneers.
- 120 games (21 goals)
- Pick 58 2007 Rookie Draft
- 5th Trevor Barker Award 2015
- Robert Harvey Best Clubman 2015
- Club Leadership Group 2015
- AFL Rising Star nominee 2009
- Preseason Premiership player 2008

That's 144 games and 29 goals from two ROOKIE picks; or an averaged-out 72 games and 14.5 goals for a Pick 44 in the Rookie Draft! You would take that any day of the week.

Hell, Gears was nearly a two-time Premiership player!

We have better-skilled kids, sure, but they'd bloody well better earn their spots ahead of these two - particularly Geary - and you certainly don't throw them into the mix before they're ready just because they kick better.

Just ask Jack Watts.

Out of boredom I'm going to put up a best 22 keeping in mind our one preseason game:

FB: Geary Goddard Dempster
HB: Webster Fisher Savage
C: Roberton Dunstan Newnes
HF: Billings Roo Montagna
FF: Lonie Bruce Hickey

R: Longer Steven Armo

Int: Sinclair Gilbert Ross Weller

It's a decent looking side and while we should get better at winning the ball there's still just too many liabilities by foot to move up the ladder for mine.

you would, if they were any good relative to what they need to be in 2016. the past is meh they did their part and its time to move on from them being best 22

best 22 if i was doing selections and everyone was fit round 1

FB: Webster Fisher Dempster
HB: Montagna Goddard Roberton
C: Newnes Armitage Savage
HF: Billings McCartin Sinclair
FF: Weller Bruce Lonie

R: Longer Steven Ross

IC: Roo Greshem Freeman Dunstan

not going with 2 rucks or crappy older players who can't kick

As it stands right now I would select this team as the best 22 we have available -

B: Webster, Dempster, Geary

HB: Roberton, Fisher, Savage

C: Montagna, Ross, Newnes

HF: Weller, Riewoldt, Billings

F: McCartin, Bruce, Lonie

FOLL: Longer, Steven, Armitage

INT: Hickey, Dunstan, Acres, Sinclair

EMG: Acres, Goddard, Gilbert

As a long term player I would rate Hickey over Longer but at this stage Longer has showed much better form as a ruckman, Hickey been OK in the ruck and looked good as a resting forward, Membrey/McKenzie/Freeman(if fit)/Gresham right on the heels of the blokes I have listed as emergencies. If Delaney, Lee, Minchington, Rice, Curren can really push for selection we could surprise a few and end up with 9-11 wins in my opinion, optimistic about the year without going overboard.

B Geary Delaney Dempster
HB Roberton Fisher Webster
C Montagna Armitage Newnes
HF Billings Riewoldt Savage
F Lonie Bruce Hickey

Foll Longer Weller Steven
INT Gilbert Dunstan
Curran Ross
Emerg
Sinclair Goddard Membrey
Gresham Wright Acres

I like it but I thought Del might only suit games with a hulk forward. Lee might be better for a more agile backline until Goddard is ready.

Gresham over Acres? I love Gresh as much as the next man but that's a big call. Acres has 2 more years' development (and they were both an end of first round pick).

Wish Paddy and Hugh were as ready to go as you suggest.

I'm more concerned by Roo on the bench...
