Your kidding arnt you, cost us four goals be it through shit kicking, giving away frees, and droping piss easy marks.

You should add bryan to that list

I have been critical of Clokey this season so far, mainly due to his use of the footy and decision making, today he was in my votes, lead all day, gave us a excellent marking option, and just kept presenting giving a contest. It's a shame he didn't kick a bit a little more accurately, because he deserved 3-4 goals today.
Well done Clokey!!!

Clements had a pretty solid game in defence and did a great job on Lloyd considering 2 of his goals were gifts from the umpires.

Travis was great today

He took 13 marks, presented all day

Yeah he needs to work on his kicking, but he played the perfect CHF game today, will be our CHF for the next decade

Best 5 Pies today

1. Heater
2. Harry O - absolutely smashed Lucas, who was the best forward going at the minute
3. Burns
4. R.Shaw
5. Lockyer

Cloke and even Rocca may have rated a mention if they could kick at goal!

Before the game if people were told that Harry would blanket (not Michael Jacksons son) Lucas, then people would have laughed at you. It's a real credit how he has come along and he is not a fringe player anymore but a required player. His story has a bit of Mal Michael about it. Good luck to him and hope he has a good career.:thumbsu: He would feature in my votes.

Cloke played well today as he presented.

Kicking at goal well lots off players need to work on that.

Player rankings

Heath Shaw Brilliant. He's is fast becoming a complete package. His skills, decision making and courage were top notch today. Deserving winner of the medal.
9.5/10

Scott Burns Very good. I admit I thought the great man might be on his last legs coming into the season, but he was excellent. His work at the clearances, hardness at the ball and pressuring around the ground was nothing short of sensational.
9.2/10

Rhyce Shaw Had the ball on a string and his pace set up a lot of forward thrusts. Only bad part was his holding the ball.
9/10

Travis Cloke Very happy with his game. He just kept working and working. We all knew coming into the game how important it would be for him to play well and he was great. Dropped a few marks and stuffed up a few kicks (a technique problem?), but you cannot fault his effort today.
8.7/10

James Clement Good game by the general. Kept The Diver quiet after he threatened to tear us a new one (with a little help from the men in yellow) in the 1st quarter. Controlled things down back and consistently won the one-on-one constests.
8.6/10

Tarkyn Lockyer I must admit I'm not Tarkyn's greatest fan, but he played another good game today. He has been good all year. Very composed and his skills are top notch.
8.5/10

Anthony Rocca I reckon he's been sensational this year. He just provides a contest. He's taken the most contested marks in the league. Missed some easy shots, but that was the only thing that he could be chided for.
8.4/10

Dane Swan I was suprised that he had 21 possessions, but he is just a tireless worker. Reminds me of Tony Shaw: not that attractive or quick, but just continually gets the ball and uses it well.
8.2/10

Scott Pendlebury Another good game from our rising star. Had 21 touches and looked very composed in heavy traffic and tight situations. Well played.
8/10

Heritier O'Brien Very good. Didn't get a heap of the ball, but when he did he was composed and usually used it. Killed Lucas, who is probably the form player in the competition.
7.9/10

Shannon Cox Woah! 20 stats. Played well. Has good pace, good hands and good skills. Could be a player in the future.
7.7/10

Alan Didak I was a bit sceptical that he came back so soon, but was excellent. Kicked 3 crucial goals and set up the play as usual. Still a bit rusty, but his class shone through.
7.5/10

Dale Thomas Just keeps improving. Along with Pendlebury he just keeps improving. Despite what most people think, he's tough at the constest. Good game.
7.2/10

Shane O'Bree Good game by Cheesy. Was very good in the 1st half and kept working hard. Provided a link man for many forward attacks.
7.1/10

Simon Prestigiacomo Typical Presti game. Given the job on the emerging Johns and did well for most of the day.
6.9/10

Ben Johnson 'Craig' was pretty quiet today, but still did some nice things. It was a tribute to the rest of the team that they could move the ball so well without the imput of Johnson. Probably still carrying his injury, but didn't let the team down today.
6.7/10

Josh Fraser He was pretty quiet and looks like he's struggling at the moment. Still contributed.
6.6/10

Nick Maxwell Quiet but still worked hard. He's pretty versatile, but he has to kick goals when he has the chance.
6.6/10

Alan Toovey Moved well. Played in the middle at times and has nice skills (although needs a bit of work). The more I watch him play, the better my opinion of him is.
6.2/10

Chris Bryan He was very good in the first quarter. 12 hitouts was the most on the ground. He worked hard to push back into defence. Good first up game and I'd pick him ahead of Richards.
6.1/10

Brad Dick Was reasonably quiet, but kicked an important (and brilliant goal) in the last. He has great skills and I think he'll be a player in the future.
5.4/10

Leon Davis Very quiet game. I think he's been good this year, but just needs to be consistent.
5.2/10

1 - Heath Shaw
2 - Harry O'Brien
3 - Ryce Shaw
4 - Scott Burns
5 - Dale Thomas

Travis Cloke had a good second half, particularly the third quarter, but other that I reckon he had a shocker. His hands were terrible, couldn't mark the damn ball, looked very soft and turned the ball over way too many times. In the second half he looked a lot better, found the ball, took strong marks and made little mistakes... in fact, apart from his set shot at goal that went out on the full I can't remember one stuff up, was a good half for him which restored a lot of my faith for him. Unfortunately because of his terrible first half I can't name him in my top list.
I really think everyone had a great game, they were all compassionate and hard at the ball, would be very hard to name the worst 5 today. My top 5 reflects the players that had the biggest impact in my opinion.

In no particular order; Heath Shaw, Rhyce Shaw, Tarkyn Lockyer, Scott Burns and James Clement. If Travis had kicked accurately he would have collected a vote or two, hopefully he's silenced a few critics today. Heath Shaw controlled the game from the half-back line and continues to go from strength to strength. Sir Scott Burns rose to the ocassion (again) and James Clement nullified Lloyd.

Overall great team effort by the Pies!!!!

The defence was outstanding today. To keep Lloyd and Lucas quiet is a top effort. Travis Cloke, despite his terrible kicking had his best game in a long time. Alan Didak welcome back! How much have we missed him! Will be exciting to see how Didak and Medhurst play in the same forward line.

My top five would have been.

1. H Shaw
2. R Shaw
3. J Clement
4. H O'Bryan
5. S Burns

best 5: umpires, Kepler Bradley, Heath Shaw, Mark Bolton, Harry O

talk about biased. I watched the game with 4 essendon supporter who all thought we where so much better today it was not funny.

Although I can only assume your comments are a little tounge in check. The dons have improved but bradley and bolton are 2 of the biggest hacks I have even seen.

How good was our back 6 today?
Considering we were facing the best foward combination in Lloyd and Lucas. Not to mention Davey and Lovett at their feet. Obviously Obrien played an awesome game and a credit to MM to start him on Lucas, he absoloutely killed it. But how good is the general. Jimmy Clement looked like he might have a tough day on his hands, with Lloydy getting a few cheap goals early on but not only did he completely beat Lloyd one on one and on the lead consistently, he rebounded and set up very well today. IMO he reads the play by far the best in the competition. With Heath Shaw not far behind.

very wrong in your cloke call

The umpires gave rocca his first 2 goals. 1 was adjudged a goal when it was touched, the second one Rocca was given a free kick for no apparant reason, I thought Bryan was the one who was infringed upon.

Bradley also gave you two goals while bolton was hopeless

Rocca was given a free kick in that contest where Bryan was involved because Michael had his back to the ball and stood infront of Rocca and held him with no intent of going for the ball.

I'll have a look at the Fletcher touching the ball incident but I believe the umpire would've seen it if it was touched. I couldn't see anything from the replay at the ground.

EDIT: Just looked at that, and there is no way you could say that was touched.

I've always thought Harry was over-rated until today, he played a blinder. He just seem to get better every week.

With regard to Harry O'Brien's game......

Mick Malthouse has taken a lot of flack on this discussion board in recent times and people are calling for his head. I just want to say well done to MM for his courageous, thoughtful and insightful decision to give the kid the chance to play on the in form forward of the comp. I feel that decision may just have been the making of H O'Brien. He has confidence to burn now because he has a major scalp on his belt and it's MM's belief in him that allowed him to do it

yeah im sure u could tell if it was touched or not from a tv replay............do you remember SOS in the 93 GF, he said he touched it too!!

The free against Michael for sheparding was blatant, it should be used in an instructional video for new umpires on what actually is a shephard!

Bradley also gave you two goals while bolton was hopeless

what draft picks were these guns taken with again??

Good calls here Gormanisahack,
One thing I noticed about Clement's game was:Iin the first quarter he was caught behind lloyd twice on the lead and was free-kicked for hands in the back on one (at least, I maybe wrong) occasion. From then on he was either in front of lloyd in the contest or on his hammer to spoil when his opponent was on the lead. I thought it was a mark of Clement's class to be able to regain control of that contest. Particularly since Essendon were getting quick delivery into their forward arc at that point.

My best were:
Heath Shaw, James Clement, Harry O' Brien, Tarkyn Lockyer, Scott Burns.

I believe Bradley was number 7 while Bolton was definitly top 5, maybe number 3. If you ask any Essendon supporter in the whole world, unless they are related to Bradley or Bolton, they will agree they are hopeless, no one called them guns.

And yeah I remember SOS in the 93 GF. From the replay I saw at the ground, it looked like Fletcher touched it. Unless there is another angle on it to prove me wrong, I will stick by my original call: Touched.

Bryan deserved the free before Rocca. He was more infringed upon than Rocca. Either way it would have been a goal, but I would have prefered Bryan to have kicked it.

And BTW, what was everyones beef with Bolton's goal? I know he was paid a mark when it was questionable, but the free kick was there anyway! I mean, either way it is his ball. And it was a blatant free too, not some line ball call.
