What's the best banner you've ever seen? Was it the catchy slogans, the amazing artwork or the really lame poetry? Or did it trip up the opposition's centre half forward?
Some of those massive Hawthorn Grand Final banners of the 80s had pretty sensational artwork, but for mine, you cannot beat a cool slogan. The best I've seen would have to be the North Melbourne banner the night the Bears played their first game on a Friday night at the G in 1987:
Say goodbye to that sunshine sky
Cos tonight Bears, you're gonna die
Simple, elegant, very cool. Didn't intimidate the Bears, however, who won easily. Oh well.
