Not a big fan of keeping pets, but I had a Welsh Corgi as a pet growing up. She was a great dog, and I would maybe consider buying another one for my kids.

In no paticular order.

Cattle dog
Red cloud (kelpie)
Border Collie

I had 2 heelers for 14 years.

Our dog we have now is border-collie heeler cross who I saved from being shot when he was a pup. The owner of the litter wasnt going to wait longer than weaning to get rid of the pups.

If i ever get another dog it will be from the RSPCA.

Heelers love to bite though ...i have known several people who had heelers and most of the dogs were snappy

Too true.

They are right up their with the top biters.

Mine never bit anybody but I did often see them get behind people and bark at their (peoples) heels. That in itself is frightening to most people. Suppose that is why they are called heelers. Their breeding predisposes them to going for the feet.

As you said they can be 'snappy' as opposed to some types who can be killers.

i've had 2 welsh springer spaniels now and i absolutely love them. They are active dogs, but are so playful and have such a gentle nature, really good around young kids.

Depends on so many things, such as your lifestyle, what type of place you live in, $$ etc.
Boxers are good loyal dogs, but require a lot of exercise. It also depends a lot on what type of dog you want personally.

When I decided to get a dog for my son to play, grow up with,my dopey sister-inlaw went and got a Shih tzu Maltese terrier cross.Small, black and white yappy and annoying(I wanted to call him Eddie)
Stuffed up my prefered dog a staffy as the staffy would probably use the other dog for a chew toy

We have seven dogs.
2 Rottwielers, i wouldnt get another one now its illegal to dock there tails i dont think
1 Brown Lab and 1 golden Retriever
1 hungarien Pulli(they are the dogs who look like they have dreadlocks)
& 1 St.Benard(beethoven dog)
and 1 something that i found at a dumpster as a real little puppy

The "best dog breed" for you, is unlikely to be the same as the "best dog breed" for anyone else that has posted on here. There are too many variables. You should try going to one of the many websites that you can answer questions and get told which is the best.

FWIW we have a labrador (golden) and he is just gorgeous. Mainly picked a lab because we have kids but he has THE best temperament of any dog I've ever owned, or even seen.

Border Collies tend to nip at your heels when they are young but after that they are absolutely lovely dogs. As are Maltese Shiztzu's or however you spell it. Two great breeds of dogs there.
