as much as i hate Man Utd and Arsenal...the 1999 FA Cup Final was a good game with one of the best goals ever seen (Giggs) to seal a match...

as a Chelsea fan i would say the 5-0 win against Man City...also the Leeds v Liverpool match where Viduka got a hatrick 'bout 2 yrs ago

Duncan Disorderly was a Gullit signing a couple of seasons after the Howay Five-O... he scored that screamer past Bosnich in the 3-1.

The 5-0:

Peacock - Dodgy header that just crossed the line
Ginola - Screamer, love the celebration where he almost elbowed poor Bez in the head!
Ferdinand - Close range header after the woodwork was rattled
Shearer - Close range finish after scraps
Albert - Sweetest piece of skill you'll ever see from a centrehalf. Awesome long range chip.

Anyway, agree with TNBT... the first 4-3 at Anfield was the game of games - despite it ripping my heart out.

I have a couple,

The Arsenal 3 Chelsea 2 ripper a while ago when Kanu got a second half hattrick and the third goal being an absolute ripper form a practically side-on angle.

The Leeds 4 Liverpool 3 corker when Viduka got all 4...

United 6 Newcastle 2 last season...

Also with Shinners, Juve 2 United 3 was fantastic. I wish Roy Keane played like that all the time.

Scousers 1
UNITED 2

On this day, Diegoal descended from the above to spread goodwill and cheer amongst the travelling United faithful with two sublime finishes.

The man who guardeth the Scouse net was judged to be Satan and was summarily cursed for this match.

UNITED 1
Saints 0

Once again, the word of Diegoal was spreadeth with a long range rocket to decide thy match.

UNITED 2
Chelsea 1

A closeth encounter with the boys who rent, Diegoal was yet again summoned to give UNITED maximum points. A longeth ball by the man who soon revealed himself to be Judas was blasted into thy Chelsea net from close range by Diegoal

My favorite would have to be from the 1999/2000 NSL Major Semi Final 2 Perth Glory Vs Wollongong. 40,000+ packed into subiaco oval.

Glory went down 0-1 in the first leg now the return leg.

After an even contest all match about the 82 Scott Chipperfield gets free in space one on one with Jason. Jason saves.

88minute mark Rob Trajkovski is bought down in the box by a Wollongong Thug. He goes back nails it into the up right the ball bounces of the net back onto keeper les pogliacomi's head meanwhile robs celebrating. The crowd was electric.

The game went to Extra time.
2minutes into Extra time Ivan Ergic scores after a brilliant one two with AUrellio Scwharz. GLORY INTO THERE FIRST GRAND FINAL.

The only other game that comes close to that was our first final series against adelade city when we needed 2 goals in the last 7 minutes and Jamie Harnwell delivered. THen in Extra time none other than Bobby Despotovski Head it Home.

We might as well lock this thread because you won't have to update it.;)

1999 Champions League: Man Utd 2 - 1 Bayern
Liverpool 3 - 4 Leeds
Germany 1 - 5 England was cool

A strange one would be Holland 0 - 0 Italy in Euro2000, where the Dutch missed 4 consecutive penalties (2 in general play, 2 in shootout).... and finally lost after completely dominated play... Great defence by Italy

Best Game - Liverpool 5 d Alaves 4 - UEFA Cup Final in 2001
Honorable mention - Man Utd 2 d Bayern 1 - Champions League Final

Two games will live long in my memory.

1. 1998 World Cup Final when France beat Brazil 3-0. A great day for us Frenchies.

2. Final round of English Division 3, May 9 1998.
Carlisle United 2 defeated Plymouth Argyle 1, four minutes into injury time and seconds away from relagation to the Amateur leagues, Jimmy Glass, our on-loan goalkeeper, ran down to take part in the final corner of the game. A header from our striker, Scott Dobie, came of the cross bar and landed at Glass's feet, he then cooly blasted the ball into the back of the net. The fans went balistic and cheered for about the next thirty minutes, meanwhile at Scarborough who had been celbrating survival, suddenly got the news. Must have been heartbreaking for them, but it was a great night for me.
I heard about it on Sport's Tonight, on Sunday Night. They had on as their play of the day. It was midnight, my wife was asleep next to me, and my daughter was in the next room. When I heard it, I went ballistic myself. My wife was not impressed, and didn't speak to for a week. My daughter didn't stir.

Why are some people nominating the Manchester United vs Bayern Munich Champions League final as one of the greatest ever matches?

The last few minutes were bloody wonderful, but the rest of the match was crap.

Have to agree with you there...it was more exciting to watch a deaf, blind, mute, wheelchair bound man talk about Vietnam...the last few minutes were good but the rest of the game was ****e.
