Can anyone suggest or recommend the best FTP software out there ???
* Freeware or Shareware would be nice
* ease of use would also be a big plus

ease of use...

for that reason, i use cuteFTP...
nice and easy, drag and drop... simple...

download at cuteftp.com

after the trial period.... u can register by going to cracks.am, or get a lovely little application called serials 2000... :p

What would you use FTP software for?

I use an FTP program called Leech. it's multi-threaded, and bloody quick, especially if both your ISP and server are fast.

oooh! yuck! it's hopeless with servers that use md5 encryption.

WS_FTP, Cute, or FTP Voyager are the best bets.

FTP Stands for File Transfer Protocol.

And basically is that.

You can download and upload stuff to and from the internet.

I use it regularly because i do a few web-sites.

It can also be used to log onto web-sites which have music or program files and you can download them to your computer using them (provided you have the approriate log in information to access the web-site) an FTP program. It is much quicker than using something like Kazaa.

I have never used FTP to download music or programs because iv'e never been able to found out the approriate log in inforamtion.

I do use FTP to upload my web-sites to the internet.

I have only ever used CrystalFTP and i downloaded the demo and i've never had to buy it, and it works perfectly well to do what i want, and it is very quick as well.

I use Leech FTP, I've only tried 3 though.

WTsomething or other FTP : Was a bit user-hostile, not a lot of functionality.
CuteFTP : Simply didn't have the functionality I needed (I think one thing it lacked was a report on which files uploaded correctly and which didn't - I upload approx 400 files to my site every night)
Leech FTP : Cannot to this day find a single thing wrong with it.

... but then I found you could just ftp using DOS ... and considering I do the same thing every night (upload every 0*.htm file which has been updated during that day), it was easy to write a QBasic program that got input of which date to work with, and then dumped directory listing to a file, refined it to those updayed that date, then created an ftp script which it then shelled to DOS and ran. Voila. Only have to run the program, enter the date, and the rest is done for me!

But if you want to do manual stuff, Leech FTP gets my vote!
