Some of the more memorable performances of players over the years have come from teams that have been thrashed (10 goals or more). Which ones can you think of? Some of mine are:

John Hutton (Brisbane Bears) - In Round 7 1992, Geelong kicked 37.17-239 to thrash the Brisbane Bears by 164 points at Carrara, but the Bears' forward, John Hutton kicked 8 goals in a losing cause.

Paul Kelly (Sydney Swans) - The Round 6 1993 game between North Melbourne & the Sydney Swans saw North kick 35.19-229 to demolish Sydney (16.9-105) by 124 points at Princes Park. With North's power forwards of this era (Carey, Longmire, A McAdam) kicking goals at will, their midfield running riot and their defenders racking up posessions at will, Paul Kelly still managed to pick up a Brownlow vote for his valiant efforts in the Swans' badly beaten team. Ironically, John Hutton was another good player in this Swans' side, kicking 4 goals.

David King (North Melbourne) - The 2000 Second Qualifying Final between Essendon & North saw the Bombers win by a massive 125 points - 31.12-198 to 11.7-73, but David King did not give up, kicking 7 goals for the Roos.

In the mid-90s we played North one day and got thrashed - over 100 pts. Duncan Kellaway played on Wayne Carey - giving away about 12 cms and 20 Kgs. The ball basically spent the entire game in North's 50 and Carey had about 5 touches.

The only time in the "mid-90's" that North had a victory over Richmond by that kind or margin was round 5, 1997 when North won by 95 points 21-15-141 to 7-4-46.

Carey didn't play between rounds 2 to 12 of 1997 due to injury. I suppose it is a testament of the mans greatness that he could gather 5 touches without showing up.

It was Scott Watters who got the last Brownlow vote in that game with a 33 possession, 3 goal performance.

I was there that day and North were phenomenal.

A little known fact is that Carlton do not hold the record highest score at their own ground. Norths 35-19-229 is the record highest score ever kicked at Princes park.

Craig Scholl kick 7 goals in his last game in the 2000 Prelim against Melbourne. North got a 50 point hiding. It was only 50 points but 23.18 to 17.4 was a football thrashing.

In 2002 Port Adelaide defeated Geelong 20.9.129 to 7.12.54

Matthew Scalett had 16 kicks 10 handballs 8 marks and 2 brownlow votes, while keeping Tredrea to 9 kicks 3 handballs 5 marks and 2 goals.

Going back a while but 1987 at the MCG. Melbourne belted St Kilda (who were very ordinary during that era) by 10 goals plus. Tony Lockett kicked 12 out of St.Kilda’s 14 goals that day. Was regularly competing against 2 or 3 defenders and the delivery was very average. The best effort in a losing side I have ever seen.

LOL. Shows just how much Duck dominated that keeping him to 2 goals when your team got done by ten was worth a vote.

I suppose the thinking was that if Kellaway hadn't held him so well, we would have won by 100+.

I also was there that day!

I intend now to go unto the Bay and taunt the Carlsmegs with this fact.

IIRC, both Tredrea's goals came in the last quarter too.

Exactly what I was going to say.

The Melbourne game that year where he kicked 10 and we got pumped is a better example.

We only lost that game to Melbourne by 14 points, so we were hardly pumped.

In terms of possessions Priddis (WCE) does reasonably well regardless of the score.

But obviously there are better examples of this mentioned earlier.
