Having a discussion with a couple of mates.

Which do you deem as the best genuine onball brigade in their own respective era's?

forget about taggers, supporting midfielders, medals, awards etc.

Brisbanes 01-04 - Voss Black Lappin.

West Coasts 05-06 - Judd Kerr Cousins.

Geelongs 07-08 - Ablett Bartel Corey.

As good as Voss, Black and Lappin all are i'm going to go with the Judd, Kerr and Cousins Combo. The Brisbane 3peat was sensational and no one can deny that the midfield was one of the best, however they also had a great backline and an awesome forward line which helped them win those premierships. The flag won by West Coast was done mainly through the awesomness of their midfield. I'm going for Judd, Kerr, Cousins but it's very tough.

Even without Power,Akermanis and Headland still Brisbane but only just over WC.

power aker played some role in the forward line

headland didnt do enough in brisbanes era

it may be questionable power is one of brisbanes best onballers, but who would you leave out of Voss Black Lappin?

again just the pure onballers guys.

I voted Brisbane because its the best option given. Melbourne should be up there though with Woewodin, Johnstone and Yze.

Interesting that even without bringing Akermanis,Power and Headland into the equation Brisbane still win comfortably.

Surprised Geelong haven't got more votes.

Considering a midfield generally consists of 5 players I'd say it goes

1. Voss, Black, Lappin, Akermanis, Power

2. Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Ling

3. Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Fletcher, Embley

Those last two really hurt the eagles in comparison to the other teams.

As for the starting 3 WC probably match the others but a midfield has more than 3 players.

Bit early for an April Fools joke don't you think? Combined career total of about 2 hardball gets between the three of them.

My vote goes to Brissy, just ahead of WCE. Geelong's trio is yet to fully reach their potential and may well overtake in the next 2-3 years.

midfields consist of more than 3 players, especially now with the number of rotations being had.
id have to say geelong because when you throw selwood, ling (best tagger in the game), enright, wojinski and max rooke into the mix, youve got yourself a lot of depth in that midfield

why are they hurting? your valueing them at present.

they were more then serviceable in 05-06.

FYI id have Stenglein & Braun as the 5 mids.

i would say wce comfortably.
seems people are considering the whole team. brisbane were a much more rounded team with better forwards and better backs than wce. they did have a great midfield, but the wce success came purely from the best midfield in the comp.

they stood well above the rest.

the poster who voted "other"

care to share?

Probably the Melbourne dude. I reckon Swallow, Rawlings and Simpson myself but I went with Brisbane.;)
