Who is the best player at each age currently playing? Players range from 18 to 34. So who is the best 18 year old? the best 19 year old? and so on...

My list (I'm using ages as of today and best form as of this year):

18: Jack Ziebell
19: Daniel Rich
20: Cyril Rioli
21: Joel Selwood
22: Lance Franklin
23: Heath Shaw
24: Brendan Goddard
25: Gary Ablett
26: Chris Judd
27: Jonathan Brown
28: Brendan Fevola
29: Adam Goodes
30: Matthew Scarlett
31: Ben Cousins
32: Simon Goodwin
33: Tyson Edwards
34: Dustin Fletcher

Ablett is 26? I thought he was a bit younger... Ah well there goes my panic attacks about him having 7 years of his prime left. Goddard is 24. Ain't that terrifying if you're not a Saints fan.

Agree with Pavlich over Riewoldt. Often regarded by recruiters and scouts as the finest key position talent of this generation. Absolutely wasted on Fremantle. Imagine what he could have been.

Hayes is either 29 or 30. Either way, he is better than Goodes and Scarlett combined.

Brad Johnson is better than Tyson Edwards and Jason Akermanis is better than Simon Goodwin.

I had those two originally but I felt the two crows were more influential this year. Tough call though. There were several tough calls actually. I'm surprised there's nobody better aged 23.

And yes, I got Ablett's age wrong.

Hayes better than the player singlehandedly holding the Swans together and the best full back of the decade? I think he gets a lot of help from his teammates.

Oh and Riewoldt is still 26 for a few more days.

Well if it comes down to how influential the player is then I'd still say Johno and Aker get the nod. Brad Johnson led the comp in goal assists this year and was often one of the key factors to most of the Dogs' victories when he pushed up the ground, into the midfield. Aker also lead our club in goalkicking which should definitely say something since we were the highest scoring team in the comp this year.

Good to see the constructive criticism  Try making your own list then so I can rubbish yours. This thread's made so everyone can make their own list.

Goddard is a super player - a genuine gun.
But Adam Cooney is the best 24 year old in the game.
This year was Goddard's first really good consistent year - Coons has been a game breaker for 3 or 4 years now, has a Brownlow and gets the first tagger every week. I think his credentials are slightly higher.

this is on their performances this year so goddard is way in front of cooney for his performance this year. also edwards over johnson for his performance this year as well.

Who said its on this years performance?? The OP simply said 'who is the best player at each age'.

Brad Johnson is a far better footballer than Edwards. I guarantee you that oposition teams would prepare a fair bit more for Johnno than Edwards.

Lets not argue about them...they are different players and both superb in their own right. Johnson is a great example of a clever small forward and Tyson Edwards has been as good as any midfielder over the last decade.

The point of this thread is to find out who the best player is at each age. In the end, Brad Johnson is a better player than Edwards and Akermanis is a much better player than Goodwin.

But neither of you guys have an unbiased opinion. So in the end your opinion is void. Besides, you are yet to write up a list of your own.

I think Johnson is deserves more credit than being called a 'clever forward'. He was one of the most consistent midfielders in the league for a decade - until re-inventing himself as a full forward (came 2nd in the coleman, captain of the AA team) - and now has moved back out to half forward as a 33 year old - and gets over 20 possies a game and a couple of goals.

If it's on Careers, Mcleod easily wins.
If it's on this year, at varying times it's been Johnson, Edwards or Mcleod. Over the whole season though, consistancy wise I'd probably put Johnson.

McLeod definitely wasn't as good as Johnson this year. Johnson was also comfortably better than Edwards as a footballer and in terms of influencing games.

Nick Riewoldt is the best 26 year old (over Judd) and when he turns 27 tomorrow - will be the best 27 year old (in front of Brown) .
