At the end of the regular season, what do you think (realistically) will be the best finals situation?

I reckon that a 6th place finish and home final against the dogs would be excellent, we have the wood on them and i definitely do not want us playing an interstate final against the swans or freo

Best result would be a home final against Sydney, followed by a semi final against the Dogs and prelim against the Saints.

Cant see us beating Geelong in a final. As well as we've played against them lately.

i will be happy with 5th we have had 2 bad weeks i dont think its the end of the world. against freeo i feel poor kicking let us down early and it wasnt a coaching error or anythign coz we could get it down there.

Even whenw e bet st kilda and the cats i said im just waiting til round 22 before castign judgement and still feel the same.
If we can peak going into september a 5th place home final against sydney seems likely. i then wouldnt mind who we play after that (as logn as it isnt freeo in subi) as we can match against them on our best days and if we bring anythign less wont win against anyone.

Ladder Predictor I have us finishing 11-11, finishing 7th and playing Hawthorn.

Where we end up on the ladder depends on how often and how many of our best 22 players are avaliable week in week out. Contrary to popular belief we have average depth, well average when you want to win enough games to be top 4, thing is we have a good enough side to finish top 4 but we always have quite a few of our best 22 out injured. And as I stated in another thread, you don't need to lose many of your best 22 when your quality of depth is mediocre like ours before you drop right away.

Realistically, you'd need to look at where we are and who we play.

Currently, 7 wins.

Need 4 wins at least to even make the 8.

Lions, WCE (at Subi), Tigers - must win games.

Then if we win one of Pies, Dons, Dogs, Swans = finish 7-8.
Win two of above (12 wins) = 6-7
Win 3 of above (13 wins) = 5-6
Win 4 of above (14 wins) = 4-5

Unlikely to win vs Cats or Freo in last 2 rounds.

So to make the top 4 we need to win our next 7 games straight - unlikley.
To make 5-6 we need to win 6 of our next 7. Unlikely.

I think we will win 4-5 of our last 9 and finish 7-8th.

We'll finish par where we did last year. We really needed to win some of the easy games we had in the first half of the season.

Oh well, look forward not backwards.

Don't care who our opponent is, I just hope we get a final in Melbourne. Got a bad feeling we will end up 8th playing the Dockers away first week.

I pretty much agree. I have them winning between 11 and 13 games. Wherever that puts us on the ladder, so be it!
I still don't think our list is as potentially as good as Essendon or even Richmond's.
I know I'll get jumped upon by the "children" of BF but we have long term deficincies a number of areas. To win a GF on the MCG you need to have a really good 'spine". Most teams have good to very good midfield runners and they are often the differnce between teams. But we need to add a strong CHF and CHB to compliment what we have. We also need a better FB. I don't think Jamison has enough "tricks" to be the complete FB like Scarlett, Glass & Lake etc.
The back line is still missing a big, strong and quick CHB. We have plenty who will play in the position but none who are capable of handling the big CHF's in Brown & Pavlitch etc
It seems we have a number players all suited to "flanks" or "wings and "pockets" and very little potential KP players. The only one I can think of to come in might be Austin.
I hope I'm wrong, because we don't want to waste the period of time we have with one of the best midfields going around. But we definately need more than them.

I won't be jumping on you as I agree with all you say, I, also have some reservations about Jammo for the same reasons. I hope like hell that all who promote Austin are right as I see no one else on our list at the mo who is going to ride in on a white horse and patch up this deficiency.

I think Hendo will be a beauty and that our existing players (Irish, Waite and the smaller guys) have the potential for a pretty good forward line.

Centre looks better on paper than it plays and if anything happens to Judd we are up the creek, I just think we don't see enough consistent effort and you won't make top 4 even without that.

Using Collingwood as the example, I don't think they're that good either but they get a lot closer to a consistant 100% effort than us.

Hope I'm just doomsaying but they are my thoughts for what it's worth.
