After an interesting round 1 from the blues, I wanted to make our best 22 based on both the past and round 1 conclusions. I know this is subjective and I know it may be a bit premature, but on round one form I believe our best is:

FB: Russell - Jamison - Duigan
HB: Bower - Waite - Armfield
C: Simpson - Gibbs - Scotland
HF: Walker - Henderson - Robinson
FF: Betts - Kreuzer - Garlett

Rucks: Warnock - Judd - Murphy
Interchange: Mclean - Lucas - Carrazzo
Sub: Yarran
Emergencies: Laidler - Joseph - Hampson

Handy Depth: Curnow - Collins - Houlihan - Ellard - Watson

I feel Hendo is a better fit up forward, therefore forcing Waite back. Warnock and Kreuz can rotate.

What does everyone else thing?

I thing Laidler would be a gimme based on last week. Good thread though......Thy in particular will love another best 22 thread :thumbsu:

Waite is going to lead the club in goal kicking this year. And he's not going to do that from CHB.

Curnow and Laidler in until they prove otherwise, for McLean and Lucas.

Fair enough putting Waite foward but then where do you put Hendo? and if you say full forward then where do you hide our second ruckman?
please don't say put three bigs up forward either... that won't work.

Why can't we play three talls, especially when Hendo plays up the ground a fair bit? When we have a resting ruckman we can just push Waite and Hendo up the ground. We have plenty of guys who are great at ground level so I wouldn't worry about that.

FB: Russell Jamison Duigan
CHB: Yarran Bower Armfield
C: Simpson Gibbs Scotland
HF: Walker Henderson Robinson
FF: Betts Waite Garlett
Ruck: Warnock Judd Murphy
Int: Kreuzer Curnow Carrazzo
SUB: Lucas

Bower can hold CHB, i like his hustle.
Then Waite can go forward, i like his hustle also.
Kreuzer on the bench can do anything, he's got great hustle

FB: Russell Jamison Duigan
CHB: Yarran Bower Armfield
C: Simpson Gibbs Scotland
HF: Walker Henderson Robinson
FF: Betts Waite Garlett
Ruck: Warnock Judd Murphy
Int: Kreuzer Curnow Mclean

SUB: Lucas

I know Mclean has to get his body right, but Carrazzo lacks the poise and skill to take us any further. If you watch a replay, you'll see that Lucas was just warming up and getting into the game in the last quarter. We need more rotations through the middle. Unlike Carrazzo, Sugar has the poise, ability, skill and legspeed to play forward, midfield, back and wing. Curnow ticks more boxes than Bentick who promised a lot early, but wasn't up to playing as an inside midfielder and run with player. Terrific runner and athlete.

Still need to squeeze in Houlihan or Collins. :thumbsu:

CHB: Yarran Bower Duigan
C: Simpson Gibbs Armfield

SUB: Lucas

I still reckon for the future we need to establish Laidler as a hybrid defender in the back 6.

FB: Duigan, Jamison, Laidler
HB: Yarran, Bower, Russell
C: Simpson, Gibbs, Curnow
HF: Walker, Waite, Robinson
FF: Betts, Henderson, Garlett
R: Warnock, Judd, Murphy
I: Scotland, Kruezer, Lucas, Armfield

Sub to be one of Lucas/Scotland/Curnow/Robbo/Armfield. You cant have the same sub every week or they will fall behind in match fitness.

E: Houlihan Carrazzo McLean Davies Watson Austin Joseph White (all could be in the 22 at some point, shows decent depth)

FB: Russell Jamison Laidler
CHB: Watson Bower Yarran
C: Simpson Gibbs Carrazzo
HF: Walker Henderson Robinson
FF: Betts Waite Garlett
Ruck: Warnock Judd Murphy
Int: Kreuzer Curnow Scotland

SUB: Armfield, Duigan, Collins, Lucas or Houlihan (depends on who we're playing)

Watson to play 3rd tall for a while, but will replace Bower at CHB eventually.

I'd give Hammer ~60-70% game time as forward, maybe 20% in the ruck, Warnock 80% ruck, 20% rest. Something like that.

Different combo with Kreuzer in there (replacing Hammer), where I'd want them splitting time more evenly in the middle.

3 tall forwards can work, provided Waite and Hendo are roaming up the ground. If we're going to play Hampson forward, we want him isolated against his opponent with only Eddie/Jeffy or Tex in the vicinity. Ie. Not have Waite or Hendo dragging their opponent over to the contest.

Good side but for mine Laidler should be in. Also would be open to having Hampson, Curnow and Collins pushing for inclusion. The ones I would not be 100% on would be McLean, Lucas, Carrazzo and Scotland.

B: Duigan Jamison Armfield
HB: Russell Bower Yarran
C: Murphy Judd Gibbs
HF: Simpson Henderson Garlett
F: Betts Waite Walker
OB: Warnock Mclean Curnow
IC: Carrazzo Scotland Kreuzer Robinson
S: ???

EM: Ellard, Watson, Laidler, White

When Jamison and Bower are back Laidler and White will be competing for a spot. Not sure who will be ahead at this stage. Laidler might lack a yard of pace which is not desirable in defence.

I'd like to see

B: Russell, Jamison, Laidler
HB: Bower, Watson, Yarran
C: Simpson, Gibbs, Waite,
HF: Murphy, Henderson, Garlett
F: Betts, Hampson, Walker
R: Warnock, Kreuzer, Judd
Int: Houlihan, McLean, Armfield
Sub:
from Robinson/Lucas/Collins/Curnow/Carrazzo/Duigan

B: Duigan Jamison Russell
HB: Yazzle Bower Laidler
C: Simpson Mclean Gibbs
HF: Robinson Henderson Walker
F: Garlett Waite Betts

Rucks: Warnock Judd Murph
Int: Kruezer, Carrots and Scotland/Houlabag
Sub: Army

Unlucky: Sugar, Collins and Curnow (want to see more than 1 tigers game)

Can just see Army coming on in a dire situation and running amok after being held on the sidelines for half a game! Would go crazy at the ball!

FB: Duigan, Jamison, Laidler
HB: Yarran, Bower, Russell

This seems to be the back six that the majority of people have picked...

Does anyone think that these 6 can stop the Collingwood forwards?? Really??

NOT TALL ENOUGH AND BOWER IS NOT A CHB....... 192 and 92

Cloke 196 and 108
Dawes 193 and 105

Aussie or Watson will be in our side by finals time...

David McKay 192cm 92kgs
Peter Dean 188cm 85kgs
Jon Dorotich 193cm 103kgs
Bruce Doull 185cm 89kgs

Nah you are right.....a player under 195 would never make a name for himself in the Navy blue as a CHB

Rotating ruckmen through full forward can work on occasion but it never really works consistently.

It doesn't have to.. the bench hasn't gone forever ,its just reduced so a little each-way can work ,rotating forwards- mids is a big key ,Getting Garlett and Betts involved in the middle (maybe even walker, have some doubts) will have a huge upside..Yarran as well from defence.. The main thing I believe the coaching team has identified this year is the need for our team to be incredibly versatile with only a few pillars left in place ,for a rotating team as required. Hopefully with improved depth ,skills and coaching nous this can be achieved.

What was I thinking 40 yearblue...

Great to see someone rates Bower with other footballers that can actually catch it...!

Dorotich though:rolleyes:

Thank goodness we have historians like you to keep us in check...

I was being nice to Bower.

I'm suprised you didn't bring up Big Nicks height and weight...:D

I think they make them bigger now days 40yb... Its in the chicken!

All of the mentioned players are multiple premiership CHB's, Peter Dean only retired a decade ago.

(Actually Dora played FF for us in the 87 GF but played most of his football at CHB for us, and in the 87 GF David Rhys Jones played CHB and won a NS by giving Dermie a shelacking and DRJ was 188cm 73kgs which only goes to my argument)

And take a poll, see if any of us would complain if any of that list could hold down CHB in todays team. I would have Doull in any team of any era. Probably the best CHB ever to play the game.

Mate you have to get over this height bullshit. It comes down to ability. And no I am not comparing Bower with any of those on my list. But the question was not is Bower good enough, the question was is he big enough. I think I have more than answered that.
