seen spiderbait and bodyjar headline an O week show at melbourne uni in the mid 90's. they were supported by a couple of little known bands at the time in grinspoon and frenzal. all this for $10  also seen living end at monash caulfield for gold coin donation

If Value divided by $ equals best entertainment, then I say The Metro, 1997.

Powderfinger opened for You Am I.

Powderfinger had just released Double Allergic and were just starting to recieve quality national exposure, while You Am I where on the crest of their Hourly Daily wave.

Both bands gave every piece of themselves to the punters that night, and tickets were just $17.50.

I guess having a chat with Bernard about Tim Rogers showmanship on the upper 'walkways' also enhanced the night.

Also remmeber being blown away by Bernards LIVE voice.

Got into a few big days out for free (won tickets three years in a row), but best value paid for would be Carl Cox in London for three pounds, and only about 40 people in a tiny intimate venue.

Alternative Nation 95

The mere fact that the promoters got totally rubber-gloved on the whole day is a testimony to the value-for-punter-dollar (and to the torrential rain on the morning of the fest, I might add)

For under $80 we got

Tool
Faith No More
Lou Reed
Nine Inch Nails
Ween
Tea Party
L7
Live
Pop Will Eat Itself
Ice-T
Bodycount
Cosmic Psychos

Kylie live in 2000 at Rod Laver. I paid $80 and got 2 hours of non stop fun, dancing singing and entertainment. I also had the great pleasure in perving on her dancers! :D

$80 sounds alot for that but thats half the price youd pay to see the same thing today

Won tickets to a Tommy Emmanuel concert, because I was underage at the time and it was licensed I got to sit in the VIP area :D
Oh and I got more free tickets to a Jebediah concert that kicked some ass too, It doesn't get better value than free :D

We used to get quite a few of those JJJ tours coming through town, Mavis' and Molar(plus some other band whose name escapes me) were there one night, Ammonia another(where are they now?). Saw Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes for $12, now all we get here in Mt Gambier is crappy party bands, Planet Square is about the best we can hope for these days....

The first BDO which went on the road (1993) had Nick Cave, Iggy Pop and Sonic Youth for $55 or so. Obviously there were other acts but those three alone made it worth every penny of the $55. Great day! Just a pity it was 43 degrees

The only Melbourne BDO where it poured rain...Every one since has been 30 degrees or above.

Was that the Spiderbait show where they stopped playing and slagged off the crowd for not respecting them enough or something? If so, I was in the crowd there near the right hand wall somewhere.

Doesn't everyone get into the BDO's for free?

It's a rock festival, I'd feel dirty if I actually bought a ticket ;)

I saw the same and even got to go to Kylie's after-party. Saw her at the Mercury Lounge and even met here @ another after-party in StKilda.
(friend of prominant StKilda identity can get tickets for just about anything).

The 'open' bar was far more entertaining than the concerts though.

Best value I've paid for, easily Pink Floyd.

Best value local band, Black Sorrows when Vicka and Linda sang with them. Awesome sound for a pub band.

And for mindless drunken entertainment, and I know someone will rib me, but the Zep Boys were also great value for a cover band. Especially the old days of the Adelaide GP weekend when they played at the "Tiv".

Best value gig that I have paid for would be The Datsuns at the Hi-Fi Bar in 2003. $35 bucks and an excellent night of entertainment with Riff Random and Sahara Hot Nights revving up the crowd before The Datsuns tore it up. Lovely.

One of the perks of being a journo student is to write for student magazines who get free tickets to concerts, so I have been to quite for Bruce Lee.

The Hitman

The Hoodoo Gurus and the Powder Monkeys for 2 bucks. It was part of the Spingvale Community Festival at Sandown racecourse.

For me, it was the Foo Fighters Live at the Chapel gig in 2000. Sweltering heat, Grohl in a suit fresh from court, and Shiflett's 4th or 5th gig with the band. All for free thanks to Carlton Cold.

I make an appearance in the Generator film clip as a result. I'm in the red tee. Then met the band which was icing on the cake.

Saw Jebadiah and the Living End at Woden Tafe in CBR in 1996 for $10.00

Also, Living End supporting Bodyjar the same year for $8.00

Living End, Casanovas, Gyroscope last year for free (thanks triple m)

or

28 Days + For Amusement Only (in eltham! $18)

Add Mudhoney, the Beasts of Bourbon, Hoss - great show

In the early to mid nineties, most Aussie bands would only charge between $8 and $16, with generally three bands on the bill. I saw Def Fx, The Meanies and countless others for around $8 in this time. Thankfully bands like the Meanies, Nursery Crimes etc were big on supporting the underage market back then.

Magic Dirt, Girls Against Boys and The Nation Blue played a year or three ago for around $20. Pretty good value there. Also Sparta this year for around $36 was fairly cheap for an international act.

Mushroom Records 25th Anniversary Concert at the MCG.

A whole day of entertainment, some not so entertaining, some great memories and nostalagia.

Great seats and I think it cost me $2.
