There are a number of established full backs in the competition

Geelong - Scarlett
W Coast - Glass
Bulldogs - Lake
etc....

of the younger up and coming full backs which is the best going round?

Warnock is not young...

I'd list Melbourne's as Frawley and/or Garland, whom before injury was our best tall defender.

Don't know if you'd class Merrett as young, heading into Year 8 now, but he's easily the best option you have up there.

Jamison and Pears the next two in line.

Yeah Merrett isnt young. Def the best option there, but he's much older.
Warnock also isnt young. He took a while to establish himself, coming off the rookie list as a mature aged rookie.

I'd say Frawley (not listed) and Pears look like the best two. Thompson and Carlisle have also shown alot.

Yep agreed.

Merret isn't young and IMO the best option there.

Pears the most potential, though Carlisle is excellent.

Not much separating a few of those guys.

One thing which I think people often miss is that whole teams defend.

If you have a weak midfield, or weak midfield defensively, quality disposal by the opposition will destroy you no matter how good a defender may be individually.

Purely one on one contests are also far rarer.

Matthew Scarlett is someone who has played in a great defensive line, but also in average teams. And he has been around for a long time (many many solid one on one contests). But someone like Dawson is harder for me to judge. He looked good last year in a team that was phenomenal defensively allover the field through it's style of play (backed up by individual workrate).

Out of the actual young guys, I have seen Pears soundly beat or hold his ground against a few opponents though, so that is why I lean towards him.

Not really.

Soreness and the conditions were probably equal factors.

Taylor looks good, but there are better.

Conditions maybe, but soreness I don't believe. Everyone is sore on Grand Final day. Chapman did his hammy in the first quarter yet still one the norm smith.

But there were many time where Taylor got in a last minute spoil when Riewolt looked certain to mark in a dangerous position.

What defines young? If <25 is young then you cant look past Scot Thompson. Another Matthew Scarlett type counter attacking Full Back. Yes yes people are jealoused already...

Carlile looks the goods, although probably doesn't get huge recognition because he doesn't have a huge DT/SC average :sigh:

Another one I'd have up there is young Mckenzie (sp?) from West Coast

I have no idea what on earth that word is meant to mean but if it means what I think it does, then your wrong.

And if you want the definition of a counter attacking young full back, Tayte Pears is probably your answer.
