hi all

Just wondering how many others at this site have to deal with being limited at every aussie bookie out there. An example being the TAB not allowing me to even place bets online anymore. I only bet on AFL basketball and rugby. Everyones response is to use betfair but they only let you get decent amounts on the full game ML. I like to place qtr and halftime lines or ingame lines and totals as you can make more instead of just getting payed on the final outcome. If you want a qtr or halftime line alot of times you wont even be able to get more than 100 dollars on at betfair. Or if say a teams down 30 and you want +29.5 on a certain team theres no way to get that at betfair. The only way i can place bets now at 3 qtr time is at the TAB. They have 2 just up the road from me. The problem with that is its inconveniant to have to leave your house to place a bet of say 1000. the best times to do that are if theres a breeze or conditions helping the bet. By the time you get up the road conditions may change. Laso what about when theres multiple games going on or im following basketball. its much more conveniant to be able to take things at home than having to go to the tab a few times a day to place a bet.

some of the bookies that limited me.

So how does anyone in australia whos been limited at all the bookies in australia( and ones that offer afl betting) make money on it?

have you considered selling your tips?

with a record like that i'm sure there'd be a market for this and this would be a pretty good place to find people who may be willing to buy them?

Think you missed tabtouch and topsport  I actually find topsport to be one of the best when it comes not imposing limits...

It's there, ozbet.

You come across as smart but failed to name topsport in your post once so not sure.

All your markets are shit derived ones as well which you're going to struggle to get much on anywhere.

Topsport. Huh? Why would he be including them in a list of books who limit?

Never considered sellign my picks

I never considered that as the odds would change on picks i wanted to take during the week and cost me. I usually take halftime lines totals. Then take the line/total again at halftime. My mind may change at ht if i have nothing pending on the game at that point. Most people would just want a a full game line so wouldnt be suitable.

Have you considered using a broker service? I only have experience with Sportmarket who don’t offer AFL unfortunately. There are a number of others out there though. I think with the closing of Pinnacle to Australians these services will become better.

To be honest I think the answer is just get better at lines and h2h. The more exotic you go the (rightly) less money there is in it.

Alot more can be made on the other markets.

For example in a game at Aurora when theres a 5 goal breeze a qtr a bookie like sportsbet would let you take:
2000 1st qtr ml 1.80
2000 1st qtr team total ov 22.2
2000 3rd qtr team total ov 22.5
2000 3rd qtr line

If you place those bets after the team wins the toss its almost free money over the years. All 4 would win or push at worst.
I cant remember a time when a team getting + pts at a ground with a 5 goal breeze didnt cover the first qtr line.

If you just look at any game on any ground the team that wins the toss cover the 1st qtr 3rd qtr ml/lines more often.

If you'ré just able to take a full game ml or line you cant take advantage of games with a breeze or who wins the toss.

Look at the GC v Nth Melb match on the weekend. GC was up 1pt at 3 qtr time and payed 1.90 at the TAB. Betfair had 1.70-1.80.
GC was going to the end in which all the goals where scored during the game.
Nth was going to the end in which no goals had been scored. Nth won qtr 1. GC won qtr 2. Nth won qtr 3.
You had home ground, better team, a slight lead, a scoring end.. some easy money.
Couldnt be bothered going to the TAB so couldnt get anything on.

I just joined sportmarket a week ago to see what its like. Sportmarket advertise no limits. Average amount they offer is about 185 euro on basketball. So they're not very useful at the moment.
For sports other than AFL SBObet and pinnacle let me put on good amounts but closed to Australians. I'm only left with sportsbetting which lets me put on 300 a game and another that lets me put on high amounts.

Any aus broker service would just end up getting themselves limited.
I guess ill just have to miss out on ingame picks for AFL or walk up the road.

TAB outlets are annoying these days too. I placed a $200 bet at an outlet last year at an EBT and the bet processed and was rejected, before the odds decreased. The only way to get around this is to place smaller, individual bets.

I only started going into the TABs last year. I placed some 9000-18000 amounts on AFL season bets. They kept getting rejected and they had to call to get the bets placed with decreased amounts. The bets won. TAB workers always look irriated when you go up to them and say can i withdraw $9000. Älot of shakes of the head and with each note they count out its like you''ve done something wrong. So i started to go to a bunch of different TABs and get 2000 a time and vouchers.

I only used the machines a few times for the first time this year to place some 500-1000 bets.

I used to be a TAB operator. I couldn't have cared less what you were betting on. Good on you if you're a winning punter. Whether you win or lose doesn't affect TAB operators. The "shakes" of the head wouldn't have been as a result of you winning. Some TAB staff may not be thrilled about counting out multiple $50 notes, because it takes time. There wouldn't be $9,000 kept in the cash registers, so they would have needed to take out money from the safe. The safe is set to a five minute timer, and after those five minutes you only have 60 seconds to open the safe before it locks again (and then the process would have to be repeated). On busy nights, you can't just stand around waiting for the safe to open. There are customers to serve at the bar, whether they're ordering food, drinks, or both. There are customers to serve in the TAB. If there are late scratchings, you have to attend to them usually as a matter of urgency, so it's very easy to miss the safe in that 60 second window. This may have explained some of the frustration from staff that you experienced.

As far as them counting out 18 bundles of $50 notes - I don't know why you would think the look they are giving you is because you have done something wrong. That one I can't explain. Some TAB staff may get anxious if it is busy and there are several customers waiting to be served while they're counting out $9,000 to pay you out.

Good post XboX but I think you are missing the point that the OP is God's gift to punting and we should wallow in his misery at having to stroll up to the local TAB to get bets on extremely flimsy markets.

The reason it’s easy money is because they’re semi-exotic markets with low volume. They’re targeted at mug punters who want some variety. I don’t even feel bad for you or disappointed in corporates who don’t accept reasonable size bets on these.

In terms of the ' 5 goal a qtr breeze games'. So taking a bet thats 75%+ of a chance to win is for mug punters?

Ok I apologise. Your punting skills to beat the bookies automated subsidiary markets generated off their lines and h2h models are far too superior for my knowledge. I apologise for any harsh feelings as I feel I answered the question in post 11.

Jealousy running wild in this thread.

I'm with you OP on getting limited but also angry frustrated TAB staff not just because there're busy but because they're miserable. Its also the case in this thread.

He never said that. Clearly you're jealous because you lose?

Yeah I think so.
