Getting the imports here for an earlier start & not over cooking local players with too much cricket would be a consideration
I guess to fit it in & not burn the players out would be to get rid of the ODD series.

It's an additional 18 hours 'work'

It's going to be the Gold Coast - the most populated city in Australia that doesn't already have a BBL team. Metricon is currently being upgraded with the light towers going from 1000 LUX to 2500 LUX for cricket broadcasting and a drop in pitch being installed (see below), new world class training and administration facilities to open next to the stadium in Jan/Feb, ideal stadium capacity, a favourable stadium renting situation with the Suns, high influx of tourists travelling to the city of the December-January period each year, already secured funding from Cricket Queensland and Gold Coast City Council. There are many reasons and recent developments that basically confirm in my mind that the Gold Coast will be involved in BBL expansion.

Geelong 200k, Canberra,350k Gold Coast700k Townsville180kor Perth 2million for 2nd team in the new 60k Stadium?

Not really seeing it for Perth two especially now that the Scorchers will be playing from a 60k stadium in the very near future.

Yes cause sporting teams on the Gold Coast always end well.
I believe there are three sports that can survive/thrive in the Gold Coast market. Aussie rules and rugby league are the obvious two over the winter months and cricket (T20 specifically) over the summer months. With the music festival scene recently being scraped, it's opened up a gaping hole in the Gold Coast events calendar that the GC Mayor and Queensland Cricket are looking to fill. Queensland Cricket wouldn't be spending the money if they weren't confident it could work.

Cricket allows the Aussie rules and rugby league fanbases to combine and get behind one singular team. Plus, there's no competition from soccer or basketball so they're really only competing with the beach (won't be an issue with night games) and the theme parks for numbers. There should be a fair amount of away fans travelling to Metricon as well because we all know the Gold Coast has a massive influx of interstate tourists over the school holidays and it also opens up the possibility for a rivalry with the Brisbane Heat. The T20 format is perfect as it only requires a few hours and the limited home games over the BBL season (4-5 a season) should also increase crowd numbers.

Gold Coast and Canberra

10 games a season
You'll see the Brisbane Heat play a "regional game" at Metricon in 12-24 months before the GC is officially announced as an expansion city. Canberra could follow a similar route by hosting a Thunder or Sixers game.

Thank you. Now we know. End of thread.

Jus treading ABC on line. Sutherland seems happy with an increase in games then an increase in teams. Didnt put a time line on things but I would be surprised if their wernt more games by next season.

I'd have to say Canberra, Geelong, GC, Launceston. Cairns or Townsville? Darwin? Ballarat?Bendigo? Anywhere else in NSW, WA or SA?

Launceston 70k... :D
According to the ABS SLA figure, but that doesn't include about a third of the town along the West Tamar as it goes from the Launceston City Council boundaries.
Last time ABS did a Greater Launceston figure it was around 95k. Maybe 110-115k within an hour's drive by the time Legana, George Town, Scottsdale and even smaller places are added..

Ignore Launceston, Cairns, Townsville, Darwin, Ballarat and Bendigo. All too small/weather is an issue/stadium is an issue.

Canberra, Geelong and Newcastle are the only three possibilities and Newcastle doesn't have a suitable stadium

I was on about for game expansion.
Getting an expansion team is a different issue.
I think Canberra GC are first cabs of the rank. Followed by FNQ & Geelong. Newcastle misses unless they get a suitable ground. Same for the Illawarra.
I think only another 2 teams anyway.

It'll be Gold Coast and Canberra next.

10-15 years from now the competition will go from late October-early March.

I very much doubt that. It'll stay as a December through January competition.

Next year 8 teams home & away so 14 games each & finals

Then 2018/19, 10 Teams 18 game fixture home & away. 2-3 games per week each. Lots of double headers.

Maybe :)
