CA got it spot on with that call, look at the crowds at the first two seasons compared to last two seasons.
Me personally I was one of those who originally refused to follow a team out of protest of the state teams being gone, in the hope that the state teams would return. After two seasons I seriously thought there was a good chance that the state teams would eventually return, but after a few seasons of FTA I eventually accepted that the state teams aren't coming back. Initially I intended to wait until there was another Qld team (couldn't support the Heat as they to me represent the death of the Bulls in domestic T20 and have the exact same colours as Port Adelaide), but eventually got impatient and decided to support the Renegades

Gold Coast in the Big Bash would be a completely different beast. As much as people think GC isn't into sport, that is wrong, if GC wasn't into sport it wouldn't have bid for or got the Commonwealth Games. There are a lot of people who follow the AFL and NRL but don't follow the Titans or Suns as they had pre-existing allegiances before moving there (and probably have generations of Collingwood, Parramatta etc. supporters)... the Big Bash wouldn't have that problem, plus the whole comp is aimed at kids and it is played over a school holiday period, I can see a GC Big Bash team being a huge success and IMO I reckon they would have been a foundation franchise if it wasn't for the politics of Tasmania having to have a team. Only real obstacle for it being a success is that Carrara Oval is a campaigner to get to on public transport, even for majority of GC residents.
Apart from Yellow, I think all the colours are taken anyway. Can't have black or white obviously.

A-League, NBL and Netball. Great examples of sustainable growth
NBL and A League had Gold Coast sides once as well. That worked out pretty well.

Yeah but CA would entirely own a Gold Coast side and all the kids watching will be Australian.

Just think there are a few spots in Oz that deserve a spot 1st.
Am not against kiwi sides if they add players tv dollars and fans etc. But a few places here 1st.

Why? Titans are struggling because of off field. Suns are struggling because non traditional sport with a really, really shit team.
Gold Coast is now bigger than Newcastle and cricket is not an implanted sport.
Of course outside of arguably Canberra we don't need any new franchises.

Remember one of the reasons CA dug in so deep. When the Cricketers where in negotiations for there new enterprise agreement.Is there over 30 million out of pocket so far on bankrolling the BBL.

What is in it for New Zealand?
Having one team in the BBL renders their own domestic competition second rate (like West Coast did to the WAFL, Adelaide to the SANFL etc). Everyone in NZ will know that Auckland would have the only real team. NZ would at least want Wellington and Christchurch and probably more for such a league but while Auckland is a decent size why would CA ever accept Wellington and Christchurch?
Not to mention that CA has full control over any side which they wouldn't have over any NZ team. By maintaining full control over every team, CA can make sure that the international/domestic franchise balance is how they want it.
CA made a significant start up investment for BBL and made the decision to go for the much smaller offer from Channel 10 to get all matches on FTA tv. This is why it hasn't returned a profit. Since BBL has been a massive ratings success it will be profitable from the next rights deal.

New Zealand never had a professional domestic competition in any of those sports. Also being restricted to having one Auckland based professional team in those sports has damaged their chances of growth and development.
Not for T20 cricket, no. You see, they already have their own domestic T20 league.
