According to Daniel Cherny from CODE Sports a massive off season is on the cards for the Adelaide Strikers with the following set to happen during the off season

  • Jerrssis Wadia will be re-signed on a two-year deal
  • Alex Ross and Harry Nielsen to not be offered a contract for BBL|16
  • Chris Lynn no guarantee to return
  • Nic Maddinson is on the Strikers radar as a potential signing

Clubs will have until Tuesday at 4:30pm (ACDT) to re-sign players before a eight-day movement period commences on Wednesday, during which players will not be able to re-sign with their current club.

Ross and Nielsen understandably. The Lynn experiment is surely done now.

Lynn is alright to keep around, however hes being asked to still be the main man which he certainly isnt.

If we think Maddinson is the answer then we're asking the wrong question.

The Wadia deal would be a good one, his bowling was very handy even if the batting was mostly a whiff. He needs more to his batting game though. I don't mind if he stays a pure slogger, but I mean for his own safety as much as anything. You can't be taking a blow to the head or ribs every time you miss a ball.

Ross and Nielsen are no loss.

Lynn was released after last season, then the Strikers signed him back up later in the year. I suspect he got a higher salary as a result. I don't think he's worth keeping, but neither do I think it would be a disaster to keep him around one more year.

Maddinson would be a good signing, but not a solution by any means.
We need to find batting to support Short who can't do it all.

The top teams not only have a decent batting line-up, but particularly have quality openers as best if at least an opener gets a big score.

It's not like the AFL where there's a limited signing period. All that really needs to be done immediately is clearing out the dead weight.

They basically have 10 months to put together a squad.

We are rumoured to be losing Thornton due to lack of opportunities. I think he is okay but the main issue is we keep losing players and not replacing them with anyone equal or better.

Surely one of the international spots will be filled by a batsman so we may need Thornton.

Ten contracted players at the deadline
Short
Carey
Harvey
Scott
Sangha
Kelly
Wadia
Thornton (rumoured to want out)
Straker
Pope
Five vacant local contracts
Three vacant Internationals contracts

Out of contract (could still be added to any of the five local spots)
Head
Lynn
Ross
Nielsen
Manenti
Buckingham
Boyce

Daniel Hughes should be a target. Wasn't playing all the games whereas he'd be top order mainstay here

Good suggestion.

We should make a play for Tim Ward from the Hurricanes. At full strength I don't think he gets in ahead of Owen, McDermott, Webster, David, Weatherald and Wade. Maybe not Chaudhary either who is contracted, that's seven ahead of him with possibly only Webster going to India. They have Mac Wright as a backup.

He’s injury prone, but I would target Spenser Johnson, Brendon Doggett, Jake Frasier-McGurk, Nathan McSweeney and wicket keeper who can play every game. Carey is a great player but has test duties, same as Head.

We need talent and at his best Johnson is good but he is injured all the time, we don't rate Doggett as we let him leave 12 months ago for nothing and McSweeny might be going India so would miss the next tournament.

We definitely need to try and get a few big names though.

Surely we need a new head of recruitment for the Strikers as the current squad assembed is terrible.
They've got one

Some English guy replaced Tim Nielsen a couple of seasons ago. Fair to say he's flown under the radar. I can’t even remember his name

We need a new guy then... who has a clue about talent.

Would love to see the breakdown as to who starts watching it, gets bored at about over 10, watches an episode of something then tunes back in for the last few overs of the run chase.

Because that's what I almost always find myself doing
