That's some legendary carrying. I don't recall one batsman scoring such a high percentage of the teams runs before.

Only time as a percentage it's been beaten apparently

I realise this was tongue in cheek, but why do people continuously attempt to glorify the Sheffield Shield as if its the pinnacle of cricket.

At most games the number of players outnumber spectators. The standard of cricket is also pretty poor.
It's the level directly below Test cricket. I'd hardly say it's poor. In fact, you could mount an argument to say it is more "elite" than AFL footy.

rubbish

the standard is very good in the shield. yes no one turns up, but the quality of cricket is still there. WA lost due to some seriously good bowling from the NSW players, and a green top

Bancroft's second innings while the whole team crumbled was awesome

If the standard of cricket is so high, why is Cameron Bancroft (a failed test batsman) the only one in any type of selectable form.

3 of the Top 6 run scorers in Shield cricket this season are all rounders or bowlers.

I think it's a combination of most cricket fans still loving long form cricket the most and it being a lot more even than most Test cricket games while still being a high standard of cricket.

Do you ever watch any or just go off stats?
There's some seriously good players about.

It's interesting to a lot of cricket lovers because it's where the next generation of international players come from.

WA being a dominant force makes it even more interesting.

How many shield batters are there right now that you think could comfortably come in and play competitively at International level?

A reminder that Bancroft and Renshaw average 26 and 29 at test level respectively.

I think most test nations are in a similar boat - barring India who have a tremendous weight of numbers working in their favour.

The prevalence of T20 has undeniably eroded the standard of long form batting but by and large everyone is in the same boat.

I agree, the batting is thin at the moment.

At the moment Renshaw and Bancroft are next best.
That's not to say they will make it.

Then you might get a young bolter from nowhere.
Guys like Teague Wylie and Ollie Davies.

Bowlers like Neser, Boland, Paris and Boland.
There's still quality playing.

That's the beauty of the Shield.

Because the bowlers are super sh!t hot. ???!

In other words, Shield cricket is of such a high standard, it is difficult to make runs.

Top 5 Shield wicket takers this year

Tremain
McAndrew
Rocchiccioli
Swepson
Paris

Wouldn't exactly consider any of those to be "super shit hot"

I don't really get what point you're trying to make TBH.

Guys like Neser, Lyon, Todd Murphy, Jhye Richardson, Boland are playing and are all test cricketers.

The bottom line is, this comp is where the next generation of test cricketers from.
Regardless of whether you think the competition is good or not, it is what is.
