i make out freo got the best out of this deal , followed by us then a long last st kilda. freo got a good player in black , we got a good servicable ruckman/foward at a reasonable price ( $250k pa i belive) stkilda got a player of a type that they have plenty of. fiora may improve with a bit of self belief but due to his light build will always struggle in traffic.

I remember seeing a story on FFC a year or two back that mentioned he was a black belt in one of the martial arts, accompanied by vision of him kicking the suitcase out of a heavybag.

Aggression and imposing himself won't be a problem, just needs time to settle into his new surroundings and adapt to the gameplan like all players at new clubs, be they seasoned recruits or pimply-faced draftees - it wasn't that long ago that half of BigFooty was writing off Cooney as the worst #1 draft pick of alltime, now he's being hailed as the next Buckley. Go figure.

Just call as it as I see it. Was no good at Melbourne. Just a player at Freo. Why the hype? Watch Fiora thrive with decent players around him and a coaching staff with half a clue.

Agree with u totally RD. Simmonds is an average big man, whilst Fiora has plenty of improvement left and was a big mistake letting him go. Tivendale for example would have been a much better option to offload. Fiora has speed, a thumping kick, and great evasive skills. Yeah, he's a little skinny but big deal. So are many others in the AFL; and he's only 22 or 23 so still very young. He has alot more overall talent and scope for improvement than a Tivendale has, which is basically a great left foot kick and nothing else to his game.

Fiora was and always will be a softkok.

Ottens needed a fresh start after injury and losing confidence. I fear he may be the type of player who only has one good game every now and then but for his and Geelong's sake hopefully he proves me wrong.

Am more than happy with Simmonds. We badly need another big unit capable of kicking goals and making his presence felt around the ground. Would like to see Wallace and co. instill a bit more mongrel in him similar to Stafford.
