Big Mistake

The biggest blue we have made this year is getting Troy Simmonds.Particularly on a 5 year contract. As if that isn't going to bite us on the bum.He is an avrage player at best, and out of the Simmonds-Black-Fiora deal we will come out of it the poorer by far.

The contract is a bit extravagant but I think Simmonds will do okay for at least the next three years. He isn't the most talented player but we haven't got that many competant talls and so he should be getting plenty of game time in the ensuing years.

Fiora has one or two years left in the AFL at most I should think.

Let's give him a chance. Reasess after 2 years.

One game m8. One with an eye for detail would proabbaly suggest your comment is a tad early. I was happy with his pre season form so if he can produce that again this year i will be happy

Just call as it as I see it. Was no good at Melbourne. Just a player at Freo. Why the hype? Watch Fiora thrive with decent players around him and a coaching staff with half a clue.

Simmonds will need a bit of time to adjust to the new forward setup. He'll never be a superstar, but he's not being paid like a superstar (although the 5 year part will always be questionable). His worth will come out more when Stafford retires, we definitely needed a tall forward/ruckman to replace Ottens, he was the best available.

Im sick an friggen tired of hearing about fiora and ottens thriving after failing so miserably at richmond. If they were class players they would have stood out and would not have been released. They had their chance so f.ck them off.

I am more than confident than Simmonds will do more than Fiora before their career's are out and though he isn't as talented as Ottens, it would not surprise me if Simmonds does more given the small size of Brad's heart.

Tell me if i am wrong but Grant Thomas is still coach at Stkilda?

He has no clue what so ever not a good coach and will never be.

it would be a pretty big mistake to assess the merit of a recruiting decision after 1 game. Of all the short sighted narrow minded comments I have ever heard this takes the cake....this will take some topping

lmfao!

Well, at least to Simmonds credit, he did kick 35 goals last year alternating between the ruck and full forward. That's a slightly better contribution than what Fiora offered up wouldn't you think?

Watch this space Mr. Bojangles! You will be bound to see many more here before the season is out!

Simmonds or Ottens what's the difference, they are both big lumbering forwards who have yet to live up to their potential. We havn't really improved in the forward stakes IMO

5 Years tho!!!! Thats Nick Holland like...
The difference to Nick Holland and Gaspar is that their contracts gave them a healthy starting price and on top of that were backended to give them excessive money towards the end of their contracts. Simmonds is on a fair price now and his contract is set at that for 5 years, so in 3-5 years time he will be a cheap player because he will still be on a 2004 salary. The problem with Holland and Gaspar wasn't so much the length of the contract but the way the contracts were structured.

Symonds needs to put in the ruck and left there . Hes a moble ruck with a good kick, why not use it.

Forget two hours mate. Been watching him for years. He is a touch better than Mark Porter. Knobel is worse. Bring back Richard Lounder.

He was the best replacement for Ottens available and his addition gives us a lot of big man flexibility & insurance
He is currently carrying a very badly bruised heel which is affecting his movement

Not to mention that at 26 his best years are ahead of him
Remember Benny Gale couldn't hold on to a mark to save himself until he was about 27

Don't compare him to Gale please!

Why not?
They're both ruckmen/forwards, both of whom are known for dropping a few easy marks
Until Benny clicked, he was very lucky to not get delisted, we showed significant patience in him, the likes most other clubs wouldn't have
Gale was a good servant of the Richmond Football Club, but he really wasn't the great player so many make out that he was
