There is a phantom draft being conducted here on BF on Nov 17. I have agreed to represent the Eagles if available on that day. But if anyone else, Dasler etc is keen to have a go I am happy to step aside. In any event it would be good to get some general consensus on what everyone thinks we should do. At this stage it looks like we will only have picks 11, 20 and 26. This could change but it looks pretty certain at this stage. So feel free to put forward your ideas on which players or player types we should be targeting and what the Eagles should be looking at with each pick. How soon should Burges be taken? Do we need more midfielders? More talls? Let me know what you think and hopefully we can come to a consensus. But I will say one thing: we will be taking the best player available! :)

well id say that we'd all like a KPP backman...im no expert but im thinking along the lines of Chaplin, Watts, Gayfer - subject to availablity of course- one of them at 11.
Possibly Burges, Surjan, Moody are my prefered candidates at 20. And maybe Johnson or Pettigrew at 28.
Naturally its impossible to predict who will be available...and there may be some gems that fall through..mclean, mundy, waters- i like the sound of.

best of luck sera.

Cheers for that! I was thinking along the same lines if we are able to take a quality tall at 11. I guess the question is, if I take a small at 11, what should we take at 20 and 26? Would it be preferable for us to take 2 smalls and one tall or one tall and two smalls? :)

I honestly think forget Pettigrew and Burges probably. To solve the backline deficiencies you must get Michael Johnson in there with an early pick. He would look great coming off CHB.

Is he worth pick 11 though? With the Dockers having picks 12 and 19 (and being keen on him), he could quite possibly be gone by pick 20.

Come phantom draft time...that my friend, is for you to decide :D

P.S

I wouldn't be upset if he is worth 11 though...

I'm unsure whether Johnson is worth pick 11.

Haven't ever seen him but from what I've heard he probably isn't, but we do need some KP backman.....

Callum Burges would probably be best to wait around for our second pick if he's still there, and look for either Moody or Farren Ray with our first pick.

If someone like Dunn, Sylvia, Tenace, Watts etc,. slips through though you gotta go with them.

For our second round picks (20 and 26) you gotta keep a keen eye for Johnson, Beau Waters and Archibald and a few others.

Kevin Sheehan (AFL talent identification manager) in the Herald Sun lists these 10 guys as top draft prospects:

Midfielders
Adam Cooney
Andrew Walker
Kane Tenace
Farren Ray
Raphael Clarke
Colin Sylvia

Talls
Kepler Bradley
Troy Chaplin
David Mundy

Utility
David Trotter

So if you can get your hands on one of them with pick #11, go for it. I wouldn't bother with Burges until our last pick, I doubt anyone else will take the risk with him (may be different story in RL).

Even though I am big fan of Johnson's I think if we took him at 11 it could be a mistake. The last few years where we've taken the best available - regardless of position, regardles of WA, Vic etc origin - have served us well and will continue to do so.

At the end of the day picking the best will more than likely pan out whereas compromising on grounds of immediate need and sentiment introduces new risks.

I think last time we picked at number 11 we picked Darren Glass. Put in a good 2003 but correct me if I'm wrong but we'd be looking for a player a little bit better than that at no. 11?

I wasn't saying we should take him with ten, just you seemed to be factoring in the fact that freo had 12 and 19 and that he may be gone by 20.

But in hindsight, you probably didn't need to worry about 10 because we wouldn't take him that early...hence why you probably didn't mention it. :)
