Been living alone for three years and just recently had a mate move in. He moved in just before the start of a new billing quarter and we got our first electricity bill today of $377.37 and he has lost his nut. Reckons it is absolute bullshit and too high. My bills living alone were around the $220 mark so it seems right to me. Is it excessive or normal?

Depends

Do you watch all your TV together?
Are you home at the same time or different times?
Heating hot water electric?
Is there an extra computer, tv, ect?

For it to go up that much there must be a lot more power used & different times.

That seems pretty normal. mine is between 2-300.

My mate's bill is over $500 every quarter as he has numerous heaters, fridges and electronics chewing it up

Basically we put up a wall and divided a three bedroom house into two. So he has his TV, computer and fridge in one half of the house and I have mine in the other half. We work the same hours so we're both home the same times.

so basically you're running two households.... that would be you're problem.

my house ran at 220 for the quarter.

7 kilowatts a day. pretty efficient me thinks.
