Reserves Wrap: V Redland

Played inside mid, he continued to improve and we saw some really good signs from Billy. A big focus for Billy this week was his GPS and his ability to get his high speed stuff up when running and his ability to get out of congestion. His clearance work with 9 (possessions) was fantastic. He played with a little more authority on game day which is what you want to see Billy get out of himself. I think he had about 25 possessions which is two weeks in a row now Billy’s put two really good games of footy together. There is still room for improvement in his running and how he runs his patterns but he’s getting ball in hands. He’s 30-40% up on what he was doing last year so some good signs for Billy coming into the season.

Billy Evans To Be Upgraded To Senior List

The Brisbane Lions have this morning submitted paperwork to the AFL to upgrade rookie Billy Evans to its senior list ahead of Sunday's clash against Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

Evans has been elevated as a replacement for injured first-year player Sam Skinner and is now in contention to face the Cats. Evans was recruited to the Lions from Bendigo with the Club's first selection in the 2014 AFL Rookie Draft, pick 4 overall.

The midfielder was the fifth and final debutant for the Lions in 2015 as the Club’s ‘mid-season nominated rookie’, earning his spot in Round 19 against the Gold Coast Suns. Evans played five games to finish out the season – including each of the Lions’ last two wins.

“Billy has made excellent progress so far in his time at the Lions, and thoroughly deserves his elevation to the senior list,” said Lions Football Manager Matt Francis. “He’ll be in the mix to take on the Cats on Sunday.”

Reserves Wrap - Sydney Swans - 01/04/16 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

Not a lot of the ball, he had the week off prior as an emergency for the seniors. He had it 13 times, 10 contested which was a good result. He was pretty clean around the contest during the day, he just didn’t get enough of the ball. Like Rhys Mathieson, Billy’s work on is that contest to contest and ability to run hard both ways. His missed the scoreboard which was unfortunate, but looked above with his clean hands in and around the contest.

Individually Billy Evans I thought was our best player on the weekend. He had a big last quarter, his ability to win the ball, be really clean inside, he had a good balance of contested and uncontested and topped it off with seven tackles, kicked three goals and had 9 clearances. He certainly put his hand up for senior selection if required against the Demons this week.

Not sure about the sentence
By the way 13Beast I think your posts are good

haha don't worry I am not getting paranoid about Mayes looking glum in the video therefore extrapolating that he must be leaving end of the year (ala Aish all over again).

Just making a comment that he seemed to be fairly vague and not at all interested during that entire video. Who knows, maybe he just woke up or something.

Reserves Wrap - GWS - 17/07/16 (Shane Woewodin’s comments?)

Billy won some more ball this week – he played as an inside mid with Clayto, Beamsy and Liam. He was probably going head-to-head with Kennedy all day or the majority of it. It was a good balanced game from Bill. He wasn’t outstanding but a solid display on the day, three clearances, three tackles. His contested footy numbers were a little bit lower than normal but it was good to see his handball receives up on previous weeks.

Reserves Wrap - Aspley - 30/07/16 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

Played as an inside mid also swapping forward in his midfield rotation. He was a bit quiet this day possession wise for Bill, but he still had his 16. Of those 14 were contested. He’s still doing the grunt work inside which is a hallmark of his game. Our inside mids were able to get their hands on it at stoppage and get it going forward. A good thing for Bill was he hit the scoreboard which is important for him. He’s been working really hard on all aspects of his game at the moment.

A little bit quieter for Billy as an inside mid. He had it 14 times, only took the one uncontested mark on the day so the majority of his work was done in the contest – 7 of those were contested possessions. Only three clearances and one inside 50. It was a pretty quiet day for Billy we’re looking for him to bounce back in a couple of weeks’ time against the Giants.

2016 Club Champion Wrap

Defender Tom Cutler was rewarded for the best season of his career by being named the 2016 Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player, while Billy Evans was the recipient of the Neville Fallon Reserves Best and Fairest.

*sigh* I really liked Evans (and Beasley). Oh well, time to crack a bottle of red and drown my sorrows at the latest raft of delistings. I sure hope the club has some solid replacements incoming

Player Reviews: No. 41 - 47

Evans played sparingly in 2016 - two games in rounds three and nine - after playing five games in his debut year in 2015. The medium-sized defender averaged just 10 disposals in his two AFL appearances in 2016 but was one of Brisbane’s most consistent performers at the NEAFL level and his effort was acknowledged by winning the 2016 Neville Fallon award as the Lions reserves Best & Fairest before being delisted at the end of the season.

Coach’s comments

Evans played two AFL games this year to add to his five in 2015. Won the B&F for our NEAFL side, which was a great reward for his efforts. An in and under type midfielder who held his own at NEAFL level but just wasn’t able to make the step up to AFL level and has been delisted.
