Player Watch Billy Frampton

Thought he was bloody good tonight and played exactly the role we acquired him for. I await the flames from those who watched on TV, but at the ground I thought he played a pearler of a game.

He looked really good on tv. Well as good as a 200 cm defender can look. Killed Lynch

I wasn't big on the McStay and Frampton recruitment when considering the cost (McStay in terms of contract amount and length and Frampton in terms of trade cost).

But based on this game, he definitely seems like he's on a massive growth curve and has the ability to be our gorilla fullback stopper to replace Roughead and previously Dunn.

Happy to see the guy do well. He dominated SANFL for years. Hinkley refused to play him and dropped him from the AFL a game after kicking 3. At Adelaide he had to play as a forward getting the worst delivery in the comp and compete for a KPD spot which is the only place on the ground they were any good. Not sure if he'll make it, but he deserves his 50-80 games to find out. Had the rep of flying the flag even as a 19-20 year old so I am sure you'll see more of the work he put into lynch tonight.

I thought he was okay ... Still has a heap to improve on but it's a tough ask being the new guy in such a settled backline.

Did some good things but needs to work on his decision making and playing more selflessly - I think both will come with spending more time in the team.

BILLY thanks for chucking the copious quantities of egg on my face. Great effort. Be sure to repeat.
I was wondering when you’d show up! He really did a fantastic job of blanketing Lynch tonight, after a shaky, but solid outing against Dixon last week.
He’s still got things to work on, but I feel comfortable having him playing that stopper role against the gorilla forwards now, in a way I haven’t felt since we had Roughy running around alongside Moore. If he can stay on this steep learning curve and get to Roughys level as a defender he’ll end up having a great career at the pies.

So far I think he’s better using an opponent as a reference point then peeling off rather than playing completely loose.

Comparisons with Roughy are inevitable and for good reason.

Billy seems to be thriving in the Collingwood environment. He's such a valuable contributor.

Makes one wonder how many other rough gems are just waiting to be discovered by a club willing to take a risk.

It is a long season but feeling a little vindicated.

Was big on his recruitment (for what it cost us)… good to see some of the naysayers on here admitting they could have been a bit too harsh on him

it’s been the same cycle with a few of the recruits in recent years Lipinski, Cameron were apparently rejects and duds, etc when they arrived too.

And that’s without getting to the flak Noble copped in his first 30 games

The club really has an ability to identify talent and approach it early

Full credit to them

Had a great game after a solid first game. He will thrive with our game plan once he settles. Solid kick when he kicks long. Only concern for me is that he hesitates with his short kicks
Came alive.
