Ratites (emus, ostriches, cassowaries, kiwis) are probably the most dinosaur-like birds currently around. Flightless, strong legs for running, flat breastbone, small wings. But the consensus seems to be that ratites evolved from theropods that had teeth rather than beaks. So, for example, velociraptor skulls would be quite different from that of emus.

But I digress. Carry on!

That's what we want to read in the bird nerds thread, play on!

I took this photo of a Magpie Goose on the weekend and apparently they are a very ancient species too. Older than Emus etc

I took this cool photo a few weeks back in a local park bush track. Mumma and daddy Tawny with 2 little fluffy bubbies ❤️

I was at a management love-in for work the other day. As it was mind-numbingly boring, I spent most of the day looking outside at this guy and his three pals. Taken on my phone so not great res.

If only you could talk to the animals you could request an hour long laughing session to get the meeting shut down due to "noise".

Not bird related but I was out last night at a park event and saw 2 baby possums on the ground. Twins that had fallen off their mums back. They crawled straight to my daughter and I. Climbed all over us, up on to our heads. It was the coolest experience ever.

We took them over to the tree the mum was in and she came down to almost greet me.

We had a mother moment where I almost felt her say thank you. ❤️

It was awesome. They were tiny, soft and just gorgeous

I sure do. Will post a few when I get home.

Was chasing a super rare Plover (in Victoria) yesterday afternoon.
Plovers are evil bastards but pretty lol

Haha they are an interesting group of birds.

The Masked Lapwings are what everyone knows as plovers but there a bunch more and they are nothing like the one everyone knows.

The smaller Plovers and Dotterels (also plovers) are pretty cute and not noisy at all 😄
