Here it is...

B: Houlihan Thornton Sporn
HB: Lappin Whitnall Walker
C: Simpson Bentick McGrath
HF: Deluca Koutoufides Murphy
F: Betts Fevola Waite
Foll: French Scotland Stevens
Inter: Carrazzo Chambers McLaren Teague
Emerg: Bannister Longmuir Saddington
In: Teague
Out: Livingston

Just trying to work this out…

1. Why play Chambers ahead of Russell?

2. Why didn’t we replace Livo with a tall defender (eg Saddo or Hartlett), instead of Teague?

3. Why is ADL playing instead of Setanta or Kennedy or Hartlett? Still not playing a 3rd KP forward.

Selections are just too conservative. :)

1. Russell hasn't done enough to warrant selection.

2. Swans only tall forwards are Hall and Oloughlin, which neither are a suitable matchup for livo.

3. All 3 havent really done enough to warrant selection. Denis is perservering with ADL, who knows he might come good!

Pretty disappointed in the selections to be honest but then again there might be something we don't know.

We need a 3rd kp forward really badly, last week Fev fired and we got so close, if he doesn't this week, we're F^%$*% as we don't have anyone apart from Waite in the forward line, Deluca is just a battler, won't take the game by the scruff of the neck. We got Lance but with his superb form who will switch him to the forward line?

1 and 2 are correct. There is some really good discussion from Mojo regarding our selection policy at the margins in this thread that is worth a read.

Basically you either agree with how the club is handling the kids or you don't, but they do have a plan at least.

Kennedy, Hartlett, Saddo and Setanta are all coming back from injuries and for one reason or another, aren't quite ready yet. That is a shame because Declua really did deserve to be dropped. Perhaps Denis is giving him a block of games to show something.

I think you could put Sporn into that category as well. He must be on his last chance at Carlton, although so far, he's done ok.

Am I the only Carlton supporter who remembers last years game against Sydney where Livo got killed by Hall only to be put on O'Loughlin and get killed again basically costing us the game?

Nope, I remember as well gandaal. Perhaps the matchups could go something like:

Hall/Thornton (Obvious now that Livo is out)
O'Loughlin/Lappin
Goodes/Walker
Davis/Sporn or McGrath

What a disgrace.

I don't care if Livo got smashed last year against Sydney, that was last year for goodness sake.

This year he has played not to bad. If I was Livo I would be one dirty boy if I got "dropped".

Where's O'Hailpin? Why isn't Deluca dropped?

Alright this is how it'll go in my opinion.

The talk is Lappin won't play, so I'm saying Bannister comes in for him.

Hall/Bannister
-- The key to nullifying Barry Hall is making him get his kicks up the ground where they aren't as damaging. Bannister is one of the few tall guys at our club that has the engine to go with Hall. Whitnall and Thornton will clog up space forcing Hall further up the ground and Bannister will do the best he can from there.

Goodes/Thornton
-- They'll have to shout at each other to be heard at times but it's not a bad match-up for Carlton.

O'Loughlin/McGrath
-- Did a good job on Buckley and Hird last year.

O'Keefe/Walker
-- O'Keefe is sometimes unaccountable going the other way and Walker seems to be the attacking defender option when Lappin isn't doing it, as exhibited last week.

Lance will be roaming free in there somewhere and I'm sure Carrazzo will be taking up a back pocket at some stage.

Up forward Carlton could stretch Sydney. They don't have a good match for Fevola particularly. Kouta looks slow however and Deluca is in the wrong league. Waite will need to have a good game and I'm not sure Sydney have anyone to go with him if he's on.

Like those match ups OZbomb, bannister has done very well in the VFL as a tall, mobile defender and deserves a shot at prooving he is AFL worthy, and deservant of a spot on our list in the future.

Your obviously leaving teague to davis? or whitnall?

Probably only stayed in because of doubts over Waite.

To short in the back half if they push Hall, Oloughlan, Goodes, O'Keefe and Ted Richards forwrd all of them can play tall we needed another tall down there either Saddo or Hartlett to match them, we need another presenting forward as well either Satanta or Kennedy they wouldn't even have to kick goals just present and take marks to put pressure on the Sydney defence and take a defender away from Fev, Sydney will be able to double team Fev badly now especially with Waite carrying a niggling injury and Deluca struggling for form and Fish out of the side, Really needed that extra tall at both ends for this match. I hope Dennis knows what he is doing?

Your forgetting about Lance. I know in the past he's been a bit slow but he did very very well on McPharlin after Livo got benched. I'd put Whitnall on Hall.

Agree Lance looked a lot faster last week has really been working on his speed over summer i reckon, however we need him playing loose to help all the others so you have to go with T-Bird with Lance forcing Hall to go outside 50 for his kicks by blocking up his lead inside 50.:thumbsu:

I'd think Teague will be on and off the bench playing on Davis or O'Keefe depending on Sydney's midfield rotation.

In the absence of waite, who will definatley not play this weekend, Whittnal MUST be up forward. We can not kick enough goals with only Brendan up there.

Whittnal and Lappin will play forward with Fev, leaving Saddo (who will replace Waite), Teague McGrath and Thornton to take Okeefe Hall Davis and OlOughlin

The only problem I have with Dennis is that he tends to stick with the battlers too often and support players already in the team.

DeLuca is a hack, a donkey, a (insert approriate metaphor here) and was disgraceful this week. He is no where near AFL standard and should have been dropped.

He's been luckly because all of our tall forward options to replace him have all, similtaniously, got themselves injuried. O'hAilpin, Kennedy and Hartlett are all injuried, not to mention Fisher.

That sounds right to me. With only Fev to kick to we'll be ripped to shreds, we just have to take the gamble that the defence can stand up without Lance floating into the gaps. Maybe keep Lappin (if he's actually playing) down back to set up the rebounds though. God I can't wait for Deluca to get dropped!

I admit I haven't watched any of your games this year, but our ruck department has been nothing short of atrocious so far. If you can get on top at the clearances who knows what will happen. I blame our midfield almost as much as the talls in the centre square. Last week they showed no accountability defensively at the stoppages.

Most of our midfield showed no accountability either. Should be interesting!
