the game wasnt televised, or covered on radio, in SA. i noticed, though, that blake had a career high 20 posessions.

how was his game?

Re: blake - career high posessions

The game was televised on One HD.

Blake was very very good.

It looked like the team was trying to use him as much as possible and he was actually looking pretty decent with his disposal.

Top game.

Re: blake - career high posessions

Seen a bit of it on foxtel this morning (they cut down a lot of the rucks to make the coverage shorter) but in the bits I saw he seemed to go for the ball after rucking, rather than getting out of the way. Probably something to do with Ablett being rested down forward.

Won his fair share of contested possesions (2nd with 11), won the ruck duel with lulu (24-20 and half of lulus were against Hawkins)

I live in SA :D

Must have been One HD Ballarat.

Blake had possibly his best game at the club (along with his game against Essendon a couple of years ago). He looked to put himself in a dangerous position whenever possible and while he dropped a couple of marks that he probably should have taken overall I thought he showed a lot more around the ground than I can recall. I know he's not known for it but I still maintain he's not a bad kick in terms of accuracy (his kicks probably sit a little high at times).

Absolutely dominated in the ruck too.

I thought it was his best game in ****ing ages. He contested everywhere and threw himself in, even against J. Brown.

My brother disagrees though.

Byrnes, Varcoe, Hawkins and now Blake, maybe bomber knows this caper a bit more than the average mug at the game. Very handy ruckmen since he got dropped late last year.

Probably seeing the writing on the wall this year for when Ottens gets back and it maybe comes to deciding between hawkins and blake for backup ruck.

Get serious! your're talking about a mature premiership ruckman these days.
Some people?????????????????

Was good for blake. if any other half decent ruckman played like that it would not be getting a toast. Was outdone by Hawkins who barely plays ruck. Blake needs to have constant pressure on him losing his spot, it seems to make him want to actually try (instead of just standing there after the taps). In saying that, if he does it against Jolly i will be impressed

Can't remember a better game from him in terms of general play. It looked like the player's willingness to give him the ball gave him confidence.

Bingo. Which is why Duncan deliberately ignoring him a few weeks back was not so good.

wtf are you people watching?

Yes, his around the ground play was much improved. Usually when he gets the ball he handballs a metre or two to a bloke running by. This time he seemed more inclined to go to a bloke in space, even if it involved a bit more of a risky handball. And as usual he was dependable in the ruck. He seems to be improving and I reckon his confidence is rising.

We tend to also forget that some other "Elite" ruckman didnt develop until much later.

David Hille didnt have a breakout year until what is it 3 seasons ago now, and he is 4 years older than Blake.

Sandilands was another that took a long long time to come good. The Freo board a while back resembled ours as Sandi was basically useless around the ground with pretty piss poor disposal. However he learned how to take a mark in attack and kick a goal from 30 out and suddenly with his tap work getting even better he is elite.

It annoys me how people try and compare players to the elite in the competition all the time. Blake is a serviceable player who works hard on the defensive side of his game and is obviously trying to add more strings to his bow.

Just wanted to mention Blakey from yesterday's game. It is great to see him getting more involved in the game and he ahd a few good second efforts to get the ball....the kick to Westy was good too, even if it was unintentional, at least he is giving it a go!

Good on ya Blakey! Keep it up! :thumbsu:

Was that the one where he got the handball from Selwood and side-stepped a would be tackler before kicking it? That was hilarious. :D

I noticed a few times yesterday though when someone would be running out of defence, look to pass to Blake in the corridor, but seemed to recognise it was Blake and looked for an option elsewhere. I remember Selwood did it once, but there were a couple of other times they did it too.

It's good to see he's getting more confident throwing the ball on his boot though.

The wonderful side step, the perfect delivery. Was clapping loudly and laughing from home!

Blake was ignored a few times, i was quite dissapoint because after his wonderful first touch you'd figure they'd back him in more. Selwood hit him up the most though.
