Which of these lads is likely to get the gig this week?

I haven't seen Blake play but from what I've heard he's a good tap ruckman but needs to work on his play around the ground. This might be a good opportunity to test him out at senior level.

Chambers has done the job before in King's absence but is hardly a top-line ruckman and also lacks a presence around the ground. I almost feel he deserves the chance though, since he's likely to struggle to get a game during the regular season now we have Ottens.

Did anyone see them go head to head in the practice games? Who came out on top?

Play both. Blake to start.

Use the wizz fizz to test Blake out and then revert back to Chambers in the season proper if Blake doesn't show enough and Kingy isn't ready.

Chambers will never be more than a battler.

Blake was better in the prac match i thought. Both didnt do a lot around the ground but i was impressed with Blakes ruckwork.

Both will play.

Mark is obviously the more talented player but is still extremely raw.

Unco isn't overly talented, but he works his arse off, has great courage and his desperation is second to none. Always got to have guys like that around the club.

Totally agree phat. He works hard which is more than can be said for some and for that he deserves a chance.

I've got no problem with playing both. North do have quite a few big guys (McKernan, Hale, McIntosh, Thompson, etc.) so to have a few of our own will be useful.

Pretty much what everybody else has said, Chambers and Blake to both play.

Does anyone think, in the future, we are potentially too 'top-heavy?'

Just a thought, but, Mooney, Harley, Ottens, King, Blake, Chambers, Playfair and even Scarlett, Gardiner, Lonergan et al. forms a remarkably tall side.

I suppose we have an ample amount of small-medium sized players to compliment them, Kelly, Ling, Byrnes etc... But it just seems we've gone a bit too tall for the future, in the hope that one will be a star forward.

Thoughts?

If you consider the fact that Mooney, King, Scarlett and Harley are all over 25, I see most of the younger talls be replacement players ie Blake for King, Egan for Scarlett, Spencer for Harley etc. Lonners is a tall forward, something we are not overly strong in, Gardiner is a flanker, has good skills below his knees and is agile, Chambers is nothing more than a backup ruck and Playfair could be anything. I don't thin we a top heavy when you consider the fact that talls take longer to develop than smalls, I think it is just good list management.

dont know how you cats feel about a demon posting but anyway...
i dont really follow geelong much but n.ablett is still another young option im not sure where thompson wants to play him but he is certainly just tall enough and atheltic enough to play key position

No problem with you posting here, but the topic is about who will ruck in the Wizz Fizz cup - Paul Chambers or Mark Blake.
