Got this email from AFL NSW/ACT today. Safe to say BLK won't be doing too much moving forward.

Dear NSW/ ACT Leagues,

Further to previous communications, we wish to advise that AFL NSW/ACT has now terminated all agreements with BLK.

As you are aware, BLK (World Rugby Specialists Pty Ltd) was recently placed into administration and had receivers appointed. Since that time, the AFL have been working closely with the Managers & Receivers to assist all contracted partners during this process. AFL have since terminated all contracts with BLK to minimise any future risks to the AFL, State Bodies, Leagues and Clubs.

Please note that:

· As the Receiver is likely to treat the terminations as ending any obligations under the various agreements, if Leagues or Clubs have any outstanding BLK stock, we do not expect that such stock will be delivered.

· Leagues and Clubs should not place any new orders with BLK or make any payments to BLK.

How many Divs are there? In the WRFL in Western Melbourne every club is with BLK through all 3 divisions. That'll be awful for the league, since new players won't be able to get new jumpers.
 
So long as nobody lost money with them it's not that big a deal. All we ever got from BLK sponsoring the league was a handful of footballs with BLK logos on them. We had them as Kooga in 2012 and they were hopeless. Deadlines never met, and far more expensive than everyone else. They wanted to sponsor us in 2015 (being the only NEAFL club in Sydney) and they came to us with a proposal. If I recall correctly they wanted us to put all seven of our teams in new guernseys (at a cost of $1500 - $2000 a set), and everything else was $5-$10 more expensive than our supplier at the time. In return they were going to give us 23 free guernseys and shorts, some deal from their website that was available to anyone with internet access and a 10% rebate at the end of the year. It would've cost us about $20k more than what we were paying at the time. It was ludicrous. I have no idea how any club in Sydney could've afforded to use them, we certainly couldn't!

Still a tad confusing.

Did the AFL cancel agreements on behalf of AFL clubs as well? Or they just mean anything AFL related, e.g. umpires, AFL NSW/ACT etc?
 
IIRC the AFL were dealing with BLK on behalf of all affected clubs. So if St Kilda have terminate their contract I would say it means all clubs have terminated their contracts.
 
Anyone else think it's a chance Gold Coast will be left behind and end up with some no-name or Sekem? There's been nothing from them at all.

Also, if Adidas get with St Kilda I won't be shocked. A certain number 7 from Fremantle who for some weird reason is being linked with the Saints, currently wears Adidas.

The bit pasted below reads to me that the AFL has done it on behalf of everyone, even though it doesn't say AFL clubs I don't think it would make sense for them to be excluded.

A few of us on the Saints board noticed that some of our higher profile players had switched to Adidas this pre-season, as well as Alan Richardson. The club re-tweeted a photo from Koby Stevens that was basically an Adidas ad. I still think it's very unlikely, but just maybe...

I'll be happy if we go with any current AFL supplier other than COAR or Canterbury tbh
 
My guess is that this email refers to NSW/ACT only - the gist is that BLK have lost their AFL NSW licence, therefore are no longer able to produce anything with the AFL NSW logo otherwise they'd be breaching copyright. Clubs can still wear BLK guernseys and shorts in the future, they just can't get any more made.

What this means for other state associations, or the AFL itself I don't know. I haven't seen anything NEAFL related from AFL Qld (as the clubs are overseen by their respective states rather than a NEAFL body). But I would suspect the AFL have terminated the BLK deals at each state level and would be urging clubs like St.Kilda to do similar. I just don't see how the clubs still stuck with them won't lose out financially, and as much as it would sting the Saints it really shouldn't be up to the AFL to bail them out. They wouldn't do it if a major sponsor fell over so why an apparel sponsor?

they covered AFL Queensland and the umpires as well. Id say thats done.

So, the only team in the SANFL that is with BLK (apart from the Crows Reserves) is debt-ridden Glenelg.. So, not too sure which way the Bays will go (or if they fold before next season) but that should be interesting..
