Believe it or not, money isn't actually what drives us in life and likewise isnt the motivator people think it is.

There's 3 factors which lead to better performance and personal satisfaction.
Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. Autonomy allows us to be self directed, Mastery; being the best at something and money whilst being good isn't any good once cognitive skill is involved. When the profit motive becomes bigger than purpose motive, people dont perform to the same standard.

Spot on. No accident that part of the role of HR (in theory at least) is creating way to keep people interested in their work.

I've jumped around a bit in my career, some time in Tasmania, some time in the UK, time to travel, a couple of jobs here in Melbourne.

One thing my wife and I did before we needed to plant our feet was take opportunities offered to us; demanding roles in our field, opportunity to travel, etc.

I did get into the work/home/work cycle for a while and could see that in the first instance I was bored and secondly my qualifications had taken as far as they could. Time for more study and the possibility of new challenges.

why would u want to work a job that has u stressed and working 10+ hours a day, then having to take it home. you work to live not live to work. Everyone is becoming a slave to the whole system working boring office jobs with long hours just to buy crappy consumer goods which you don't need.

I'm such a stoner that I can't even be bothered growing my own weed, I just buy it in small amounts off a 'dealer' every few days.

What is so admirable about being ambitious, anyway? 99% of people just want to be happy, being ambitious just means that success is a prerequisite to that. If you can be happy without being successful, that's a good thing, no?

Plenty of unhappy 'successful' people out there.
