LANCE Whitnall's manager has savaged Carlton's handling of the sacking of its captain, accusing the club and chief executive Greg Swann of gross disrespect.

"Lance and I are extremely disappointed by the decision and extremely disappointed with the way it's been handled and that's been put to the club," he said.

"Would they say that about Nathan Buckley, or Peter Bell? The total disrespect for this bloke is unbelievable. We should have sat down in August. He missed any sort of farewell. He is the captain of the club."

"It is not the be-all and end-all, but he missed the grand final lap (for retiring players) and he also missed out on job opportunities as well. He could have been traded."

Perhaps if Lance had've shown up in better nick over the past few years, by keeping his weight down, then perhaps the club would have given him an extra year. Either way, the game has gone past him, and he should've realised that and just walked away.

Piss and wind from Nixon. Lance still has the PSD if he's wanted. All Nixon has to do is ring the clubs and ask if there's any interest.

There's no row - it's just Nixon who's pissed off.

Lance, sleep on it and announce your retirement on Monday. Get on with things and start thinking about becoming a specialist coach.

Lane needs to get a hold of this guy.

He not offered another contract, rather than sacked. This was due to medical reasons which are affecting his game. There isn't even a casual observer of the game who wouldn't agree that lance is really struggling.

Further it became apparent as soon as he was appointed that the wrong decision had been made. He was dragging the club through the media at a REALLY inopportune time (his fault ?) and to my mind was exacerbating both his personal issues and the blues. Not to mention his indiscretions in Ballarrat.

He has been consistently under prepared and although a valuable contributor to the club and well loved and appreciated has also been nursed through his entire football career.

If it was known in August that he would be sacked then we would have discussed it. This decision has been made on post season medical advice along with his poor second half of the year.

I do not think that Judd had a chance to say farewell, nor many other greats.

Further Nixon has no role at Carlton and is in no position to make any comments regarding our players, loyalty or club culture.

His actions can only be seen as jeopardising lances long term post football relationship with Carlton and Lance should act immediately to mitigate the damage being done by Nixon.

As far as trading is concerned for Lance, I could not think of anything more humiliating than being drafted at pick 76 to play a stop gap role at say Essendon for one season.

Get a grip Nixon and Lance. This club is not here solely to look after Lance, his emotional imbalances, dieting disorders and attention deficits. Suck it up ! Lets hear how great the club has been to you over the years rather than insulting us from the corner of you mouth behind our backs like some jilted lover.

Stand up for once in your life Lance. Tell Nixon to F*** off.

Amazing... **** off, Ricky Nixon. His knee hampers him from doing anywhere near the required training - what do you expect us to do, honestly? Put up with a fat, deteriorating 28 year old because you're not going to get as much money? If Lance had any integrity, he would graciously accept that it is in Carlton's best interests that he retires (or at least moves on) and do what's best to help the club. Of course, I doubt Lance is behind this at all - but Nixon is a deadset tool. And to think... he was a Blue in his playing days

agree 100%
Nixon was a shit player for Carlton & he isn't doing his manager credibility any good shooting off at the mouth like he has........

Nixon.......... you are a disgrace :thumbsd:

Well summed up mate.

I guess Ricky still hasn't got over being shipped off to St Kilda. Come on Ricky you were a very ordinary player & we did you a favour letting you go to St Kilda. At least at St Kilda you got to play 51 games, which is 47 more games than you played at Carlton & if you had stayed at Carlton you most likely wouldn't have added to your 4 games. Time to move on now, Ricky.

Must admit I feel for Lance...he's a Carlton boy through and through, and seems like a really decent down to earth bloke. His body just aint up to it tho unfortunetly. Good luck to him in the future with whatever it is he does!

Look, I suppose if Nixon wasn't upset on Lance's behalf, he wouldn't be doing his job. That said, he needs to quickly position him for his next career. There's plenty of upside to Lance as a specialist coach and he needs to make the most of that right now.

lance was never mean to be a footballer.

Everyone comments on how smart he is...I so believe then that he would be a fantastic coach....

What he lacks on the field due to his body, supposibly he makes up in footy brains..

Retire Lance and become our specialist forward coach and maybe later on an assistant and then who knows.....

I'm not ruling Lance out as a coach but I am sceptical because his communication skills are far from elite.

You are spot on that he needs to be seen sticking up for client but he shouldnt make it personal. Nixon is probably more upset that one of his cash cows (no pun intended) has dried up on him.

What does Carlton do, allow him to train once a week and try and maintain his fitness like that. His contract wasnt renewed NOT terminated.

Maybe if he of done the right thing by himself and Carlton over the last 6 - 7 years with weight control maybe his knee might not have been so bad????

Nixon you can go forth and multiply.

A 28 year old with a bung knee, who has been advised he can only train once a week next season and has weight issues. You have to be kidding Nixon. You saw this coming a long way off...admit it. A sad day for us all but a good decision. :thumbsu:

Nixon is burning because Paul Conners used to work for him and went his own way. Paul Conners has alot of clients at our club and Nixon is losing alot of players - fast. Where does he have the right to take a swipe at our club? w***er.

Media Beatup. The only anger is one-way from Nixon directed at Carlton's management. Carlton don't care about Nixon, and Lance's statements have been sensible and understandable. Lance said he met with Ratten, and was told of their decision face-to-face. Can't do anymore than that. The Blues gave Lance every chance, and publically acknowledged that this decision was coming up. I mean, how more upfront could you be? Lance has been a great servant for our Club, and will always be held in the highest regard. The bitter bleatings from Nixon will never change that. A lot of Nixon's frustration is because he has been marginalized within his industry, and is losng business big time. :)

Lance has got noone else to blame but himself, he was captain and what did he do? put on weight and when his position was under threat he was told to go back and fix your weight up.. he was the captain of the club and he could respect his team mates and the club, by at least showing alot more to the cause, im glad we gave him the boot

From the Herald Sun... "Nixon did not believe Whitnall's knee condition would end his career.

"Everyone's known that Lance has had bone-on-bone for probably four or five years," Nixon told Southern Cross Radio.

"But a lot of players play with it. (St Kilda's) Nick Riewoldt has had bone-on-bone since year one in the AFL. Some people are able to cope with it, some have it worse.

"It is a very, very disappointing decision. At the moment he's got to face up to the reality (that) he probably won't be at Carlton."

... Wow Nick Riewoldt will be thrilled he decided to share that with the world.
