These are the new board rules. We encourage all posters, both ours and visiting posters to read them. The excuse of I didn't know won't cut it when infractions are handed out.

In addition to these board rules all posters are reminded that they are bound by the overall site rules when posting on here as well. So please make sure that you have read BigFooty Rules

Abuse
We encourage rigorous debate as long as it stays on topic and subject. When responding, attack the argument not the poster. If you attack the man then you risk infraction.

Avoiding The Sweat Filter
Avoiding the swear filter by altering a letter or two even though the word is still obvious will be deemed deliberate and will incur an infraction. If you feel the need to swear in a particular post then just type the actual swear words and let the swear filter do its thing. Remember there are young kids that also use this forum so we prefer posters to try and keep it as clean as possible.

Banned Words
Words such as ******, ****, ******* and other similar terms will not be tolerated in any circumstances. Using these words will see you infracted, no ifs or buts about it. Also using racist terms will earn you a nice little holiday.

Personal Details
Posting any information on or ridiculing the personal details (real name, photos, job, place of residence, marital status or family members etc) of another poster will also earn you a nice holiday from BigFooty.

Starting Threads/Posting
Rule 1 - Keep Threads About Footy
Remember that this is a FOOTY forum, so keep your threads (and posts) football related. Any social style threads will be deleted or moved to the Corner Hotel, remember this is not Facebook.

Rule 2 - Make It Worthwhile
When starting a thread be sure that your opening post contains some form of discussion to start your argument off. Use the search function too - multiple threads on the same topic clog up the board and push other threads off the front page, so have a look before hitting "Submit Thread" that someone hasn't already thought of your bright idea before you.

Rule 2 b - Threads About Other Clubs
When starting threads about opposition teams, we would appreciate if the correct terms for the team/s is used in the title of threads. Either use the name i.e. Adelaide Carlton Collingwood West Coast etc etc or the 'Official' nickname i.e. Crows Blues Magpies/Pies Eagles etc etc. Using words such as Scum Bummers Filth etc are not to be used. All they do is cause trolls from other boards to venture in and make trouble. This can lead to not only them but also you guys being infracted as well. If you do want to use words like Scum Bummers Filth etc in titles then feel free to venture over to Bay 13 where that sort of stuff is more than welcome.

Rule 2c - Quoting Posts
Don't quote an entire post if you are responding to a part of it. Edit out the irrelevant parts. If you're not responding to any particular part of the post and just want to endorse what was said then please quote the post but edit it down by using ....... between the first and last paragraph and then post that you agree with what was said. Quoting a slab and then adding 'Great Post' 'I Agree' or words to that effect just make the thread look ugly.

Rule 3 - Threads About Other Posters
Do not start threads about other posters as these invariably end up turning ugly and create more work for us.

Rule 4a - Threads About Injury
Threads that appear to be in anyway gloating, celebrating or deriving some form of satisfaction from an injury to a player will be deleted as soon as we see them and infractions given.

Rule 4b - Threads About Death
Threads/posts that appear to be in anyway gloating, celebrating or deriving some form of satisfaction in the death of an individual are unacceptable and will deleted as soon as we see them and infractions given.

Rule 5 - Sticky Threads
Sticky threads will be limited. From now on we will be having weekly match threads which will start on the Tuesday Night after games. These threads will be used to discuss selection, matchups, gameday and post match. Until round 1 we will be having the training thread as well as the DT/SC threads stuck as well. Once the season is underway it will be just the Rules thread and weekly match thread that will be stuck.

Rule 7 - Rumours
We will allow users to post a rumour where it is being discussed in the media i.e. HeraldSun/Age TV Radio say player X from Richmond is rumoured to have done something, as a way of discussing the topic. What we will no longer allow is posters starting their own rumours or ones that they have heard from a mate down the pub or at school/work. As this board is frequented by reporters a rumour started on here may cause more trouble than its worth. The other exception we will allow is rumours based around trade week/month. Obviously we would prefer that the rumours have some sort of factual base rather than you just wishing and hoping that someone gets traded in/out.

Rule 8 - Game Streams
Site rules prevent posters from advertising illegal streams. Any poster/s who ask for or advertise illegal streams will be given a 24 hour holiday in the first instance. Subsequent occassions will see you get longer off. The only stream that we will allow is www.afl.livesports.tv this will be mentioned in the OP of each gameday thread. This service is only available to our international posters, so if you live in Australia don't bother asking for or mentioning that you know of ways to get this service.

Linking
Rule 1 - Other Team Boards
Linking to team boards on Big Footy is off limits, as is the posting of quotes from team boards as it has been ordained that users should be safe to voice their opinion without ridicule elsewhere.

Rule 2 - News Articles
You are allowed to include a news article in your thread or post, please include a link to the website it came from, and only use one or two paragraphs from the article.

Relevance
At all times try and keep your posts relevant to the topic being discussed in the Opening Post of the thread. We understand that at times the natural course of threads will lead to some deviation from the topic in the opening post, as long as we can see that it has happened because of natural deviation there will be no problems. If posters are taking threads off topic because they have nothing to add then posts will be deleted and infractions may be handed out.

Moderators/Infractions
The moderators of this forum are always right and there will be zero tolerance of criticism levelled at moderators. This also goes for moderators from other boards. If you venture to another board and get infracted don't bother coming back here and complaining as the post will be deleted and you may well receive a follow up infraction.

Moderators are entitled to post and voice their opinions, you can take them to task about their post provided you do not denigrate their modship or bitch about past infractions as part of your argument, unless of course you wish to receive another infraction.

Do not whinge in threads/create threads about a decision made by the moderators. If you have a problem with a moderators decision then contact them via PM. We will answer you as long as your request is put politely and isn't simply telling us to go forth and screw ourselves. Remember that we're human too and also have the odd bad day where we are a bit touchy about things. Last but not least we have a responsibility to ensure everyone has a great time here.

If you are infracted do not create another account to get around the infraction, you're better off serving your time and learning from it.

Opposition Team Posters
When posting on our board remember that as a visitor you have much less leeway with regards the rules than our own posters do. If you find something on the board that you feel is offensive please report it rather than replying to it and we will look at it and take any necesary action. If you do get infracted on our board and go back to your board and complain about it, we reserve the right to add to your infraction.

Posting Images
Posting of images is allowed However, there are limits to everything. As you can imagine, the moderators will automatically apply appropriate infractions against posters who display pornographic, obscene, or offensive images.

Examples of automatic infractions are: images of Downs syndrome or other obviously intellectually handicapped persons (usually as a form of insult to a fellow poster); pictures of other big footy users; pictures of drug use or associated implements; pictures of poo (faeces, s**t - whatever you want to call it) - we dont want to see it - you don't want us to see it either; animals fornicating, defaecating, urinating etc.; images of personal vibrators, dildos, sex dolls etc....

We can't list all of the things that are inappropriate, so we say be tasteful. If it's something you would be comfortable showing your grandmother - then it's probably OK.

Leeching - posting images hosted on other sites without their permission - is verboten. Use photobucket.com or box.net or any other free image hosting service. BigFooty is a busy site and you can easily cost people big money by pushing them over their server data allowance.

Attacking Posters
As mentioned above, we ask that all posters address the topic of the thread when replying. Attacking other posters because they don't share the same ideas/opinions as you do does nothing but make posters feel less inclined to continue to post. We want to make this board a great place to discuss the footy. We don't want to see it turn into somewhere where posters feel bullied into following the majority.

Application of Rules
Applying these rules is an inexact science and we as moderators will consider context, the history of a poster and the nature of the thread among other things when determining whether the undefinable line has been crossed. We may also just be in a bad mood.

Long sequences of off topic bickering between posters can be boring for others to read and will be deleted with the possibility of an infraction being attached.

It is impossible for us to read every post in every thread so some posts may slip through unnoticed. If you are offended by a post and believe action should be taken, report the post as this will ensure it is brought to our attention and we can act on it as necessary. If you do report a post don't then respond to it as well as it creates even more work for us and will darken our mood.

If you are unclear on a rule or it's application please use the PM function to raise your concerns where we will endeavour to answer your question as soon as possible.

Above all else we are all here to have fun and enjoy some good natured banter with other footy lovers.

From The Tigers Mods.
