I know I'm getting ahead of the deal here, but if we did end up with the Bock compensation pick do you think we should use it this year, or stock it for when we could get a higher pick?

If we were in a premiership window id say keep it but because were a young team i think we will use it. Im ok with that.

How about we wait until it's final and then I will re-open the thread.
Other trades for picks could also influence whether we use it this year or down thr track (if the trade eventuates).
I think it is wise to sit on this one as may end up securing other picks.

I think we'll keep it for later on down the track. Don't want to too heavily skew the age brackets.

I know what'll happen though - we won't use it this year and the player who would've been chosen will be a gun. :D

It definitely needs to be kept. It's value almost doubles in 2 years eg. Pick 27 in a compromised draft now to pick 19 in an uncompromised.

Im actually all for using it! we have the possibility to go into this draft with all our picks inside 40 and get some pretty decent players!

This draft is surprisingly good and despite the GC taking all the early picks this draft will provide quality very very deep into the draft!

Happy either way but i'd be happy to use it this year to snare someone like Keiran Karper or ever Darling who may slip!

Can someone explain this shit to me ?

Exactly what is this pick worth if we hang onto it for next year ...?

2010 draft - GC Suns get all their first round picks - We get the pick at 27 or whatever it is.
2011 draft - GWS get all their first round picks - Still at 27.
2012 - no one - We get it at 19. So, we don't get these two above w***ers getting in the way of getting free picks (or any other club for that matter) in the first round.

I say use it, reports are the top 30 is pretty good this year so get our hands on a good kid that we can throw into the mix from next year and get aheadstart on development.

In the 2012 draft it may not be pick 19 because all the clubs that lose players to GC and GWS may plan on using it in 2012 too.

We probably should keep it but would love going into the draft with a few higher picks if we can still off load a few other players.

I'm all for using it now...

Given where our list is at now is the time to get as much young talent to the club as possible. I have faith in our recruiters to be able to select a great young player with a pick 27 and the thought of three picks inside the first 30 (We will have pick 30 as our second round if no other club activates their compensation) is extremely exciting.

We could have three young guns + Grigg + Houli and another couple of kids for next year.

There's no point living for the future - get it done Tiges, use the pick and keep building this young and talented list.

That's presuming no other clubs with compo picks don't use theirs in 2012. If we all do, then our pick slides from 19 to 23 or something like that.
I would use it now. We need kids coming through now.
Better the devil you know.
Draft a good kid now. No reason why we can't trade for more picks in 2012.

Are we wanting a player who'll still be in development when we start to make the finals again? Use it now. Most players dont develop overnight. Though seeing that Steele Sidebottom for Collingwood seems to have given a few of you blokes hopes that it is a common occurrence.

I'm ok with keeping it, but we must realise that the chances of GWS poaching one of our players in the next two years (as they get two years of poaching players) in pretty bloody high.

Therefore, we are likely to get another compensation pick at some point.

I sort of like the idea of having the flexibility to use it down the track. What l dont want is for the club to use the pick on a ****ing "speculative" ruckman.

If that happens, l'll spew. We may as well as have bent over and taken one up the coyte.

:)

With respect, there is no argument for using this pick now in 2010 for Richmond unless a player of real quality slips big time for an incredibly stupid reason!!!

I am back for the moment on this issue because this is too important for Richmond and I am too passionate about the club to stand by without proper reasoning being expressed.

The Tigers seriously need to bend backwards to get Geelongs 1st round mid range draft compo pick. We want the pick , they need players to impact 2011 and 2012 finals.

Lets do a deal I say. The RFC and the team are the priority. No player or subject is above the success of the team and that means premiership success.

I am glad we got pick 50. Something for Francis to play with or to use for Grigg/Houli.

Good luck to Tambo. I hope he does well!!

Trolls beware!!! I will not let you promote arguments which destroy the RFC!!!!

Definately need to hold onto the Bock compo pick until 2012. It will then be pick 19 or 23 at worst in an undiluted draft which will be a much better kid than in 2010 at Pick 28 with 7 kids already pulled out...
I know some will say that we need to get a kid in now, however, that is a short-sighted view for the RFC and even if the draft in 2012 is not that great, pick 19 could be used to get a very handy player (Decent developed Ruck)...
Please be patient and let us use 19 in 2012.. We can trade Pick 50 to Blues for Grigg and essentially replace Tambling for Grigg (same output as Bling every year except 09)

This means using it in 3 years time approx. Our list is not good enough for the finals except maybe our favourite 8th/9th.

This is the Joel Selwood pick equivalent but we aren't as good as Geelong at the time yet!! Patience is a virtue. You let the opportunities come to you

By the way, for those pushing the use of this pick. If I am wrong and we reach top3 by 2013 we can trade the pick to get a more progressed player when it comes.

The bottom line is it is incredibly ignorant to believe this year is the most opportunist year for the Tigers to take advantage of this pick among 5 years. Not to mention the draft in later years will not be significantly compromised

I am assuming RFC won't use it this year because they should have gave up more in consideration for this pick to Adelaide because it can be used later!!

pick 19 in 2012 could help get a quality trade over the line, plus obviously a good kid. If we get another few 2nd or 3rd rounders this trade period I say hold on to the Comp pick, it's huge.
