Bomber to blame???

:D Hawthorn struggled against Geelong's poor kicking did they?

Not once during the game did I think Geelong were going to win. The poor kicking you speak of, could it have something to do with the inability to withstand the constant pressure from the Hawks? Hawthorn's tackling was sensational and McLaren refused to reward it.

I think it were the umpires that kept Geelong in the game by half-time.

you idiot, 'good' tackles are not ever 'rewarded'.

a free kick is given for an infringement of the rules.

How about holding the ball or incorrect disposal?

Probably the most obvious example of poor umpiring was Ablett's down field free kick that resulted in a goal.

The frees for and against tallies were simply evened up a little bit in the last quarter once the game was virtually over. 29 frees to Geelong and 21 to the Hawks... bullshit!

If you didn't know what I was suggesting you are the idiot.

I would blame the Geelong selection committee personally. How Trent Varcoe can get a game in that side is beyond me.

Re: Was bomber outcoached

I think a few players copped a ragging today and we all saw the poor kicking etc but nobody has mentioned the fact that I thought Clarkson and co really thought through the game and the cats were sucked in, to a certain extent- ---No plan B . Perhaps Bomber needed to change a few things during the game instead of the 'same old' which didnt work that well on the day. I think that the savvy coaches like clarkson and eade and malthouse may have figured out how to stifle our main game plan and alternatives are required
Something to work on next year?

EDIT-------------------------

IWOULD JUST LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT MY ORIGINAL POST WAS TITLED 'WAS BOMBER OUTCOACHED'
NOT 'WAS HE TO BLAME'
MOD MUST HAVE CHANGED THIS . i WAS NOT BLAMING HIM FOR ALL THE STUFF(UPS) THAT LOST US THE GAME.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't totally blame "Bomber". I was someone who wanted Thompson sacked at he end of 2006, but have since thought that he is a very good coach. However, I feel he made two mistakes.

Firstly, he has no Plan B, like you said. Most teams we didn't need one against, but teams like Collingwood and Hawthorn have figured out how to beat our gameplan. Now, it was probably thought to stick to what wins you matches, but Bomber now has six months to come up with a gameplan, when our first one isn't working. Maybe we should copy Hawthorn and add the "cluster" to our gameplan, and beat the Hawks at their own game.

Secondly, he shouldn't have committed to not dropping Travis Varcoe after one good game. Varcoe didn't deliver yesterday, and Thompson should have relied more on his past record, rather than on his PF performance. But it is a simple mistake to make, and Varcoe should have repaid his coach's faith in him.
