My opinion is Judaism is a broad church politically and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
To suggest though that these opinions are even close to the mean is just rubbish.

It’s an ethnic community. You can convert but you are born to be Jewish through your mother’s line. That’s why the Nazis insisted on examining the heritage of everyone in the countries they were occupying. You had to have papers showing your family relationships. If you even had one Jewish antecedent that was enough to make you wear the yellow star and from there, the cattle trains to their deaths. Ethnic cleansing was the aim, and achieved to a large extent.

So it’s not people who follow a religion. It’s people who ARE a religion.

I don't have a problem with the scrutiny, but the post I was responding to was suggesting religion needs to be "de-emphasised", which is not scrutiny but calling for a prohibition step by step. For most religious people, their beliefs are intrinsic to who they are and don't have a detrimental effect on others. Contending that this fundamental part of their person is a first rate problem for society to solve is going to get them upset. It's not the same as questioning the factual basis for transubstantiation.
